    Half a million?

    How many people are using KDE nowadays? And how many known VLC deployments are there? Surely there have to be more than that?

      I think they meant half a million users of the Qt framework, as in developers. In terms of users of application that use Qt its probably hundreds of millions if you think about all the mobile phones and desktop applications that use Qt.

      Qt is available under two licences commercial and LGPL. They're probably discussing commercial deployments.

      Support, costs.

      There is also the free Qt Project version, sans support.

      If you want your hand held, hand over the $150/month. If not, download away and find your own solution if/when problems crop up. This has always been the Qt approach, two versions, one free, one not, nothing new here.

      You could also compare this with the Xamarin Enterprise license which costs $1800/year, so it's in the right ball park if you're that category of developer.

    Since Qt will be available on Android and iPhone, and it's already a major part of BB10, it seems the only major platform that *won't* be able to support Qt apps will be Windows Phone ....And it was Nokia that nurtured the mobile development of Qt.
