    The Indestructable John McAfee

Like Charles Montgomery Burns, John McAfee is in delicate state of homeostasis created by the presence in his body of every disease known to man, which cancel each other out. Mr. Burns took this as making him invincible, although the doctor who told him this implied that the slightest breeze could kill him.

In other words, it's also like the average PC running McAfee virus protection software.

Ah McAfee, no matter how many times I uninstall it, a few months later it's somehow back on my desktop.

The only solution I found to work consistently was a good ol' re-image

And the first thing the shop-bought branded box does after you've nuked the hard drive and re-installed the factory image from the oh-so-impossible-to-corrupt-and-infect sooper-seeekrit hidden partition?

"Please register your free trial of McAfee..."

          Damn.

Yes, a friend of my who does support said something similar about Norton when you try to uninstall it.

He viewed as a virus in it's own right.

    Just this.

Pilgrim got his stuff together after a bad run in with the powders.

Can McAfee produce something to justify the air he breaths, please?

It is a wide open field these days for the alkward squad isn't it. Decent encryption, with a nice front end. VPNs. TOR like systems. Just do it.

"which is now owned by Intel."

I'm never buying another Intel product until they get rid of that McAfee, no, the software not the person! (As at least the person does less damage to the PCs I see!)

That "tongue in cheek" video was also genuine. Informing people that he hasn't had anything to do with that software since the 90's (McAfee antivirus used to be good in the DOS --->early Win9x days) so is not to blame for its current state and the misery it inflicts, AND how to fix it. He showed people the "McAfee Consumer Product Removal" tool (MCPR)

There was good advice in that comical video. I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation of the information as it also had good "slap in the face" value.

    I can't believe...

you didn't have Mark Twain in your list of premature obituaries, ‘The report of my death was an exaggeration’.

Also, did McAfee start the rumor himself? As you said, he has been quiet recently.
