back to article 'BadNews is malware' says outfit that found it

The BadNews malware debate continues to be batted back and forth, with Lookout, the company that first raised the alarm, maintaining that it is malware in the face of Google's assertion last week that it had seen no malicious activity associated with apps carrying the malware. In conversation with The Register, Lookout's …

Google are showing signs of complacency. Many things could be said of Google, but complacency was never one of them. It's still to early to properly judge, but Sundar Pichai's agenda does not seem to be aligned with Google's Android Fanbase. The lack of sessions on Android at the Google dev conference and low responsiveness like this may be starting to paint a picture. Are Google growing bored with Android as a business, because it isn't one for them? Certainly it is easy to see their business prospects are best with services.

Greatest false statements of the 21st Century

      It's not malware

We don't see the point of a start button

      We are not tax avoiders

I was just following the rules

Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.

You left out one of the most egregious of all:

If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.

    Because...

"The Register invited Google to provide comment for this story, but has received no response."

Because they know that if they ignore it, it will go away.

    You have to break...

Android security to install it on various hardware.

Android is not an operating system in itself it has to sit on an operating system supplied by the hand set manufacture, hence you gain a method of getting under the hood.

Compare this a windows or iPhone where they are the actual operating system of the phone.

Hey but there is one huge advantage of Android at least your data gets backed up for free to Russia and China ;)

    FAIL

Last me get this right. It prompts you to download another app. Android blocks this. Unless you select the option to allow side loaded apps and acknowledge the malware risk message..

    WTF?

    Odd reluctance

Despite an analysis which shows that it has all the hallmarks of malware, Google are reluctant to do anything about it because they haven't observed it doing anything wrong yet? That isn't just complacency - it's willful neglect of their users.

One has to wonder if there's something in it for them in letting it spread.

    Surprise

Why is it that when we see the word "exploit" or the phrase "security problems/issues", the article is always about Microsoft.

People need to give themselves a shake and stop using MS products!
