It's no wonder that so may cloud providers are now promoting the fact that their data centers aren't in the US.
It's not the physical location of the servers that puts them under federal jurisdiction. It's the fact they are operated by US-based companies.
If Microsoft (for example) were slapped with a request for data, then they would have to comply. No matter where their servers were.
Personally, I've suggested avoiding any dealings with US companies that could hold our data - and a regular review to ensure that the takeover waltz doesn't change things in the background.
Oh, yes, and *all* data to be encrypted before leaving our network.
