back to article Kirk to beam up chat with ISS astronaut on Thursday

Las month El Reg reported on a Twitter exchange between William Shatner, a lot of people's* favorite fictional astronaut, and his fellow Canadian Chris Hadfield, who is currently ensconced in the International Space Station. Hadfield is currently orbiting the Earth at 17,247mph as an ISS flight engineer, and is due to take …

You've written your favourite order of captains??

What, are you paid by the comment or something?? Can't argue with your Picard choice, but would happily debate the order of the rest.

Oh, as for Twitter leaders of ex-Trekkers, may I submit Wil Wheaton with around 2.3m followers on Twitter?

Picard has the class and a fine taste in tea.

Kirk, Janeway, Sisko and Sam Beckett follow.

      Shatner's still alive?

        @AC 08:05

        Shouldn't that be

        "SHATNER'S ALIVE?"

        In style of Brian Blessed?

    Look, lets sort this out...

I suggest we send each of the wannabe space captains/deputies (Kirk, Spock, Picard, Janeway, etc.) up to the ISS for a month or two and see them "Celebrity Big Brother" style in space ... then we could vote for the *best* one ;-)

    Redshirts

Redshirts were actually slow-starters in the body-count stakes, with blue taking an early lead, yellow overtaking briefly, but with red as the ultimate run-away 'winners'.

I didn't know the Tholian Web episode was such a redshirt slaughter! With that body count, Arnie or Stallone would be proud!

Shatner is not a fictional astronaut.

"William Shatner, a lot of people's* favorite fictional astronaut"

No he isn't. He is not, never has been, and probably never will be an astronaut, fictional or otherwise. He is a real person, actor, musician.

One of the characters he played was (will be) a fictional astronaut, but that is not the same thing.

    Land of his birth?

“William Shatner to boldly go to the land of his birth”

    Actually, as Kirk explains:

“I’m from Iowa, I just work in outer space”.

Let me explain... Kirk is from Iowa, Shatner is from Canada.

This would be the only thing that puts me off going the ISS, someone playing the guitar somewhere. Though I think it's a rule of any property where you have flatmates - one of them is going to be a musician. Glad to see it's a universal law that extends beyond our atmosphere.

    Why William f*@&£%g Shatner?

Why must they choose one of the nastiest people on earth to host this event? Shatner is nasty to people because he can. Why not get Sir Patrick Stewart to do it instead?

I met Captain Kirk when I was 16

I was at one of his horse shows in Dallas Texas at the time.

I went to the back and started to groom his horses and calm them down and I saw Kirk approach me and I got my pen and paper and went to greet him as He and I were alone.

Instead he ran back to his limmo and jumped in and he looked at me from the rear window with his other hand hushing the driver to get going as he looked at me in fear with his hands still motioning the driver to go faster.

Kirk is such a little man and he refuses to admit what a idiot mistake he made.

The above happened I think in 1984-85? Today I am almost 46 and last year I remeinded him of that incident and Kirk called me a punk!

What an honor to be called a punk by captain kirk!

    /facepalm

    He has no honor.
