    Meh

    Unlike Apple subcontractor Foxconn ...

they didn't have to attach suicide nets to their factories to stop worker's extreme protests.

I wonder if Foxconn ever thought of putting railings and bars to stop workers launching themselves in the first place?

      Excuse me?

This is a story about Samsung?

Wonders will never cease though I'm sure it's a misprint, I mean, Samsung?

      Consumers

Consumers of Samsung products no longer occupy the high moral ground.

Do you think that they will take a moment to study the Samsung device they bought and consider the plight of the people that put it together?

      Just for a moment?

Errrmmm - can't find any documentation that says suicides were higher or lower at Foxconn plants making Apple than Foxconn plants making HP et el. Do please give sources for this, if you have any

These Foxconn plants employ so many people they are like large towns / even cities in the UK - wonder what the suicide rate per 100,000 people there compared to China as a whole or even the UK?

Stop trying to distract people from the problems at Samsung.

Google are evil and so it seems are Samsung. This is how they can keep making big profits and not give a stuff about the little people.

Apple on the other hand have a good record at auditing suppliers and publish the information:

    Rumour has it

that this is why Solyndra and others bit the dust, not because they ran out of money but due to the pending lawsuits caused by airborne CIGS dust (cadmium is REALLY REALLY carcinogenic) and other toxic chemicals used in making solar panels incuding silane and trichloroethylene.

Was easier to pull the plug and blame the economy, than pay up.

Ask anyone who worked there, who is now suffering terribly because of corporate greed.

Don't even get me started on Area 51, that mess isn't going away any time soon.

The paints on the SR71 back in the 1980's were bad enough but the carbon composites are worse than asbestos and stealth paints use dibenzylfuran among other things which caused horrible side effects when burned on site.

By Area 51 I assume you mean burning off waste regardless of content.

Just so people know this isn't to do with aliens but laziness resulting in avoidable illness including fatalities.

Yep nobody creates Superfund sites like the US military. Its the reason they don't close even more of their bases. Many of them are too polluted for civilian use and their pesky EPA.

    The Electronics Industry...

... use some of the nastiest chemicals around:

Silane, arsine, Hydroflouric acid, ultra pure water etc.

Bad management of any can cause massive damage to employees, locals and the environment.

Large companies, most making big profits through the manufacture (by themselves or subcontractors) of components and equipment, should be held accountable and heavily fined when exposure/ contamination occurs.

It doesn't matter who's name is over the bloody door!

      Ultra-pure water??

      Please tell us more.

BTW pure heavy water (D2O) tastes oily.

Were the 'new town clusters' similarly caused?

Hair shirt greenies have for years claimed that nuclear industry is a prime cause of leukaemia, but electronics and other industrial products seem more likely.

Several of the observed clusters of childhood leukaemia in the UK have been in new towns; and there seems to be a paradoxical correlation of increasing incidence with higher social class. Could the new town clusters have been the result of affluence enabling the purchase of electronics devices, or is this like the 'new car plastics smell' too slight to be significant?

Re: Were the 'new town clusters' similarly caused?

Clusters have also been found in small rural communities. AFAIR the first was spotted near Windscale, but a nationwide study found lots of clusters with no detectable correlation to nearby nuclear industry.

My personal guess would be that it's a legacy of historical in-breeding. The upper classes were rather keen on marrying their cousins, to keep their wealth all in the family. In villages, especially remoter ones, before modern transportation, the gene pool was naturally restricted.

Or it might be an infectious disease with negligible symptoms: one or more viruses as yet unknown, that trigger leukaemia in some individuals or circumstances.
