Bloody hell, McAfee's treatment was cruel!

American Airlines in economy is cruel and unusual, even for a suspected criminal. Think none existent entertainment, paid booze and frumpy flight attendants!

As for Kim Dotcom, if it's true the FBI cited files he'd kept to "help them", then I think there are clear lessons to be learned when it comes to cooperating with certain US law enforcement entities.

    Damn right

"...deported in a cruel and unusual manner: an economy class flight on American Airlines."

    That is all.

      Re: Damn right

I overheard an AA Cabin Crew discussing their employer a few months ago. They were staying at the same Hotel I was.

"I prefer to fly the other AA rather than ours. Their Flight Attendants don't have the permanent hump.'

The other AA is Alaskan Airlines.

We were some 6,000 miles from Alaska at the time.

Even Uzbekisthan Airways offers a better in-flight service than AA and that is saying something.

      Mines the one with:-

      1) a decent in-flight meal

      2) an E-Book reader

      3) A video player

in the pocket as AA can't be relied upon to provide any of the above even in long-haul business class.

    Competition

The Reg should have had a Christmas competition (though it's not too late for the new year) which asks, "Who would YOU like to disappear up their own arse in 2013?". The prize for the best answer? An economy class flight on American Airlines (or a bus ticket) to your nearest Ecuadorian embassy.

Stephen Elop surely? He was Microsofts 8th largest shareholder when Blamer concocted his last-gasp desperate attempt for some kind of relevance in mobile, and set him on his mission to infiltrate Nokia. Clearly doomed to failure from the start, his only success is in dragging Nokia down with them, but he'll naturally be very well compensated when he gets the boot.

Intel might want to review the actual value, or otherwise, of that name now

    Short memory?

I see you forgot about A$$nut's hilarious attempts to claim his "horrific" (self-)imprisonment in the Ecuadorean embassy was making him ill (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/29/julian_assange_lung/). And the hysterically desperate attempts of his Faithful to smear previously lauded and committed socialist Anna Ardin as some type of Nazi CIA spy (http://cannonfire.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/anna-ardin-and-cia.html?m=1). And what about the scales finally dropping from the eyes of the Anonydupes when A$$nut tried to harvest his crop of suckers (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/10/12/anonymous_drops_wikileaks/)? Too much Chrimbo sherry,Simon?

Assange has got nothing to do with technology, he just uses it as his delivery mechanism for his leaks.

"Assange has got nothing to do with technology, he just uses it as his delivery mechanism for his leaks." Perfectly true and completely obtuse at the same time. Technology by itself is nothing but geek froth, it is how technology is used that not only drives technological development but also defines the geeks of tomorrow. Businesses, governments, even educational institutions, all are USING technology because they have a (business) requirement to, not because they think "oooh, shiny". Therefore, the means and methods by which A$$nut makes (mis)use of tech to attain his goals is just as pertinent as the most altruistic, scientific researchers' use of systems.

    Yacht? Aim higher.

In other 2012 news, Larry Ellison now has his own island. For 2013 I quite like the idea of him building a lair underneath, and holding the Moon to ransom.

Mine's the one with the Walther PPK in the pocket.

So Ellison is just catching/copying up with Sir Richard (I'm a Virgin) Branson then....

What next for him? Oh yeah, an Airline. Well the price Oracle charge for their stuff is sky-high so it won't be that much of a leap now will it?

    Dotcom

Not sure I agree that the Dotcom trial has got less visceral, and while I might agree that he's trying to stir controversy, he has had nothing but wins against what might loosely be called the New Zealand Government. It's all rather hilarious for us down under, until we remember that when he wins all those law suits he is bringing, we'll be the ones paying the damages from our taxes.

Paying up for the Government making so many cockups,is a small price to pay for such entertainment and the joy of seeing Key and co roasting on a open fire.
