Most fittingly Sigmund Freud best summed up America and, unknowingly, Anna Nicole Smith. In his late years on a visit to America Freud was asked for his thoughts on the country. IIRC he replied: "A failure. A magnificent failure but a failure none the less."

Yes, the American "Empire" is lacking serious foes. They have lost so many soldiers because of the nature of the action in Iraq. Any nation, any at all, who directly attack the United States, and subsequently went to war, would be completely destroyed. The mistake that is being made in Iraq is to think that the Iraqi people can come together under one flag without one of the major groups being suppressed. They are killing eachother, and Americans are dying because they are trying to stop the sectarian fighting. There is no other country in the world with a more powerful military.

By the way, have none of you ever heard, in your lives, of satire? Did you perhaps read "A Modest Proposal" with deep horror in your eyes? Maybe you read "Gulliver's Travels" and thought it a merry little tale, but lacking in any real intellectual or cultural value?

Don't kid yourselves, the UK has it's fair share of cultureless idiots. If America seems to have more, it is because the world sees more of America's culture than any other county's. America may not be perfect, but the article contained a perfect analogy for any country that has realisticly achieved the dream of "freedom of socio-economic movement". Most Americans have so little respect for Anna Nicole Smith that people everywhere are making fun of her death, but hate her as much as any of us want, she represents not just the American dream, but the Capitalist dream.
