Boffins at Japanese electronics giant Toshiba have unveiled a new four-legged robotic invention designed to root around in areas too dangerous for humans, such as Tokyo Electric Power’s stricken Fukushima No.1 nuclear plant. "smaller camera-mounted robot"

It would make more sense to mount the camera on the robot, surely?

Japanese robots are known to split up and merge again in action-oriented settings.

You just need an American Robot to tell the Japanese Robot to unfuck himself. Job done.

    Here's an idea...

Get a few prisoners sitting on death row (there are plenty in 'Merica) to volunteer to do the cleanup. Cheaper and more effective than any robot. If they need any enticement, offer them a couple of cold beers at the end of each working day, that should have them queuing up.

They'd last about 20-30 minutes in the higher radiation environments, which is about how long it takes you to use up your store of neurotransmitters once you've lost the ability to synthesise more due to nucleic acid damage and damage to transcription enzymes, endoplasmic reticulum etc. The nervous system is, like a robot's CPU, the weak spot.
