back to article Pirate Bay back online as PRQ raid target confirmed

The Pirate Bay is back online after nearly two days of downtime, which it blamed on power problems, not the raid against the Swedish hosting company PRQ that was set up by some of its founding members. The Pirate Bay told TorrentFreak that the problems were caused by a faulty power distribution unit at its main hosting site. A …

I know I'm clutching at straws but..

"The Pirate Bay is back online after nearly two days of downtime" & then

"Meanwhile police have finished their two-day investigation"

I know they are not related because I believe what TPB states but its definitely very coincidental!!

      Meh

      Notwithstanding this is about Piratebay

      BUT

It shows just how vulnerable data held in the cloud is if a Government decides it doesn't like the administration of a server.

Yes, maybe tpb shutdown their own servers to make their users think the police did it. They do seem to like their persecution complex, after all - see anon reaction...

"......I know they are not related because I believe what TPB states....." So, what you actually mean is you unquestioningly believe TPB, which means PRQ are actually really sh*t at hosting if one component took out their power. Oh, and also you just don't question that the "power problem" hit TPB but miraculously didn't affect other PRQ customers.....

Hey, you may be interested in something else! I have some water-side property for sale in a prime location in the Everglades, the whole deal is endorsed by Gottfrid Svartholm, Fredrik Neij and Julain Assange, honest! If you send me a downpayment of $100, 000 I can probably still get you the plot next to Julian's.....

/I'd better put sarc tags in before the Faithful start sending me cheques!

Do you actually know anything about anything?

I know of several outages involving specialised power components that went bang that took out all the power in the DC AND prevented the Diesels from starting up.

One of them was right next door to a massive power sub-station and just happened to be the flagship DC for BT's 21CN network. It happens to everyone.

          FAIL

Re: Re: I know I'm clutching at straws but..

".....Do you actually know anything about anything?...." Well, I obviously know a lot more about highly-available datacenter design than you or your mates at PRQ.

".....I know of several outages involving specialised power components that went bang that took out all the power in the DC AND prevented the Diesels from starting up....." I'm sure you do if all you have worked with is the cheap end of the hosting business. Those of us with more expensive toys to play with ask a bit more than just one feed and diesels.

"....It happens to everyone." Sorry, but no it doesn't. As an example, provider Data Protection Services kept their DC in New Orleans up and running right through Hurricane Katrina, despite problems with local power supply and flooding. You get what you pay for. Or, in TPB's case, you get what others pay for for not having to pay for what they get.

Re: I know I'm clutching at straws but..

I keeping forgetting that it's impossible to converse with you.

"Well, I obviously know a lot more about highly-available datacenter design than you or your mates at PRQ"

If you say so. I'm sure it's all very obvious how highly skilled you are.

"I'm sure you do if all you have worked with is the cheap end of the hosting business. "

Did you miss the bit where I mentioned that one of these instances was in BT's flagship datacenter in Cardiff? One of the others was L3 in Lehman St., London, the other L3 DC in Goswell Road has had it's issues as well. How about the C&W DC's, Tesco's DC's?

These aren't tin-pot datacenters. They haven't all had the same failures either, but they have _all_ had failures of some kind. Most of the time the ones I know about haven't even made the technical press.

"Those of us with more expensive toys to play with ask a bit more than just one feed and diesels"

You're head is so far up your own arse I expect you save a fortune on dental check-ups since you can probably see the back of your teeth.

I'm sorry, but any further assistance helping you get to a Tier 4 datacenter like the ones I play in and I will have to charge you for my time. Maybe you can get Gottfrid Warg to pay for it if he has any money left after the authorities get through with him.

I believe someone posted the other day that if you have to tag sarcasm, well you aren't doing it right ;)

I posted anon because the shoe, I mean mask, seemed to fit.

Does anybody else see the humor...

    in the Guy Fawkes mask?

Their symbol is that of a failed terrorist.

Re: Does anybody else see the humor...

Fawkes failed, but the man in the mask in the V for Vendetta film reached his goals, IIRC. The Anon seem to base their image on the film, not on Guy F.

Except a freedom fighter only attacks the government or state, a terrorist attacks the people.

For the first time, I recently downloaded a movie using TPB. I liked it so much that I promptly bought a copy. It cost £5 including postage from an big online supplier. Maybe the distributors need to look at their pricing rather than criminalising their customers.

        Netflix, LoveFilm etc

I think you have a valid point in that lots of people only want to watch a movie once. In that scenario, the Netflix, Lovefilm type service make perfect sense. I only hope the studios realise it and work with those guys to get their movie catalogues increased to include more stuff people want to see.

Usual crap to try and justify piracy.

Quote anon coward: "For the first time, I recently downloaded a movie using TPB. I liked it so much that I promptly bought a copy. It cost £5 including postage from an big online supplier. Maybe the distributors need to look at their pricing rather than criminalising their customers."

And next time I go to the Cinema, I will tell the Manager that I want to see the film free first to decide if I want to pay to see it. There is NO reason or justification for piracy. When will freeturds see how unreasonable their behaviour is. The producer of the film decides the price he wants people to pay to watch it. If you don't want to pay that then don't watch it. END OF!!!!
