"The Chocolate Factory complained that Aliyun was actually an incompatible version of Android..."

Change Google for Oracle, Aliyun for Android, Android for Java and this all starts to sound rather familiar.

I thought Android was "open"? so don't be too upset when someone decides to fork or change your work.

      In fairness...

...they're not trying to ban it or get fees or damages.

They're just saying that it's part of the agreement of the 'Google Android club' that you can't promote 'non-Google Android'. Acer are free to drop Google Android and user non-Googly Androids but obviously that's not much of a choice.

So, not totally open but not exactly Oracle levels of evil.

Google dropping some Diet Evil to go with their more usual supercalorific "Let's sell everything about you to spammer, advertizers and the NSA" Evil.

Even Oracle aren't this bad. Although they'd like to be.

is Google suing Alibaba or Acer in? How much in damages do they seek from both anyways?

eulampios belongs to Google. They sell him 100 times per day. He thinks that's "good" and "moral".

Not using anything they could use it or sell. Their web interface to gmail is the most benign ad-wise, do not use anyways, thanks to mutt and imap. Not using their chrome(ium), prefer firefox with noscript, adkiller, flashkiller. So don't care about those who "sells or buys" me either.

Okay, Google's bullying can be compared to Apple's grudge against Samsung .. only if Apple would limit their bullying to choosing a different supplier for their idevices .. wait this is what they are trying to do ... along with global legal prosecution for some ludicrous reasons.

Google have NO problems with anybody forking Android. e.g. Amazon, sell a forked droid. Google have invited Alibaba to join the OSH. So once again, Google have no problems with Alibaba. The fact is that Alibaba is upfront promoting shit which breaks copyright and does not distribute the source for GPL software. Does Acer want to get sucked into that pile of litigation? Now tell us, who pays you to spread this crap? Does the name begin with A? or with M?

Android is open, but Android and fragmentation go hand in hand. Another fork / bastardisation of Android is just what the world needs. We can't have enough of these

Does anybody else find Alibaba a disquieting choice of name?

Does anybody else find Alibaba a disquieting choice of name? To me, naming your company such that peoples' first association is with thieves is not brilliant.

They should rename to AliBongo and be associated with 70s magic.
