back to article Undead galaxy cluster spews 700 zombie baby stars A YEAR

Astroboffins have spotted a galaxy cluster that's breaking all the cosmic rules, including coming back to life to spawn stars at an enormous rate. The Phoenix cluster is spewing out the celestial bodies at the highest rate ever observed for the middle of a galaxy cluster; it's the most powerful producer of X-rays of any known …

HOLLY: As it transpired, there weren't any Black Holes.

RIMMER: But you saw them -- you saw them on the monitor.

    HOLLY: They weren't Black Holes.

    RIMMER: What were they?

HOLLY: Grit. Five specks of grit on the scanner-scope. See, the thing

about grit is, it's black, and the thing about scanner-scopes...

    740 suns a year?

That's a publishing rate faster than NewsCorp. How do they manage to maintain journalistic integrity?

    Impressive

I'm having trouble getting my head round the numbers though. How many olympic sized swimming pools worth of matter is 740 suns?

    WTF?

You guys employing the old NotW writers now?

There's been more than a few articles with 'Boffin' in, or as part of, the title.

I reckon 'boffins' make up your core readership - might want to try something a bit more cerebral.

Someone once branded me a News of the World journo and I took it as a compliment.

In all seriousness, we've always used boffin and we always will. It's a term of endearment. You have to be seriously clever to be a boffin, though, with some kind of doctorate in a real science.

      Otherwise you're just an egghead.

Or suppose that it's just a black hole having trouble with his bowels from having swallowed too much of that ethanol formed in gas clouds and planetary surfaces. Seriously, it even fits with the self-limiting cycles*. I mean: Bilge drinking -> puking all over the place -> the next morning's hangover -> repentance and remorse -> next galactic weekend ... and the cycle restarts.

      Where is my Nobel prize?

Self-Limiting cycles: Obviously these are bicycles with their baskets full of bricks. Don't know WTF they are doing in a black hole, though.
