back to article School tasers naked, oil-smeared student

A Ohio high school student who decided it was a "good idea" to strip naked, anoint himself with grapeseed oil and "run amok" in the school's canteen earned himself a double tasering for his trouble, the Columbus Dispatch reports. basic safety?

Did the officer not consider that tasering a child, bad enough as that is, becomes even worse when that child is covered in potentially flammable oil. Most oils are not that likely to catch fire from an electric spark, but i am going to assume that nobody actually took the time to ask what sort oil he actually slathered himself with before tasering him.

Didn't people used to get detentions/extra work/suspensions for this sort of thing, rather than 6000 volts in the chest?

    Amazing

What next, real firearms for students who run pranks that others don't agree with? We did equally stupid (aka "cool") things at High School and the worst we ever got was a telling off or maybe some corporal punishment. "Resource Officer" is that like a way of saying "School Cop"?

    Sadism is now official

Have you heard the screams of someone being tasered? Do you know that it causes muscle paralysis for several minutes?

And why should standing up "attract a second dose"? Is it a crime to stand up? And notice he only *tried* to stand up. He couldn't, you see, because the electric current had incapacitated his muscles.

The light-hearted tone of this article is inappropriate. Tasers are cruel, barbaric and degrading. Tell me how it significantly differs from, say, branding with red-hot irons, which was one 'disciplinary' practice used in medieval times.
