Apple wanted to integrate Twitter into iTunes, according some people "familiar" with negotiations between the two companies. The immediate fruit of talks between the pair last year was the native Twitter app for iPhones and iPads. But Apple also wanted to go a step further, the Wall Street Journal reports, and offered to …

Frankly they should have withheld the app for longer until it actually worked.

Money talks, everyone has a price.....

It's just a question of negotiation.

The rampant move to more intergration of facebook and twitter into iOS and it seems MS with its new outlook.com etc means I am more and more pleased to be usuing Android, ok Google might be mining my data for ads etc but at least the rest of the world won't be informed when I download the latest fart app.........

..but it's a bit embarrassing when the wife uses your laptop and wonders why you keep getting adverts for hot Japanese Fart Porn.

But with Google I can't stop them mining my data. With Windows I just have to not link it to a Facebook or Twitter profile.

    that'll go down great..

Somehow I see facebook'esque information overloaded twitter feeds, filled with every song/app/television series a users watches/hears/uses.

Why not just implement iTunes to iTunes communication/profile scraping, and let Twitter in peace/be ignored (whatever your view on the blue bird is).

    Love these stories

Huge, profitable corporate giants desperately trying to edge into hugely popular, but not financially viable Facebook & Twitter becuase (presumably) they believe the user base can simply be bough and monetisedt like any other commodity. Big joke will be, once an aquisition happens, the buyer will change the product to make money out of it, and the users will vanish because that's not what they signed up for. Can't wait.

    iTunes

I thought Apple were supposed to be smart? If so, they'd realise that any social network aspirations they have will be instantly given the kiss of death by integration into i-fucking-Tunes. It's a horrible, clunky, bloated lump of turd and even ardent Apple fanbois hate it.

What the hell were they smoking at Apple HQ, the day someone came up with "I know —lets bolt some more cruft onto iTunes. It's not nearly annoyingly fat or slow enough yet!"
