    Not just businesses

I think some people may need to consider how they'd react to their name being registered in this domain. ;)

Paris? I think you can work that one out...

And after they've got(ten) used to .sucks ...

... somebody else will operate .stinks, and all the corporates will have to grab those domains too ...

    Entertaining idea

A shame that bottom-feeding scum (domain squatters) are the ones doing it.

I've applied for .scum and would let you have DavidHicks.scum (and a few variants) at a good price.

    WTF?

This is just too stupid even for me

It's not big and it aint clever. FFS - .sucks? .hiv? .wtf would be more like it! It's the ultimate in trolling, force image conscious companies to have to buy a million different domains to protect their image - either they pay up or the cyber squating trolls move in - its win win either way for the money grabbers and the tosspots! And for the rest of us, we have to put up with stupid fucking websites name now like www.libdem.fail just cos organisations will attempt to be cool and instead look like a bunch of knobcheeses! Aggghhh!

Start up your own .ffs TLD? I like the sound of that, but I'm sure wtf.ffs would go pretty quickly

I thought the porn chaps missed a trick when they went for .xxx - ISTM that .cum would work better.

Sorry, but as a Game of Thrones fan I have already claimed .wtf as the designator for websites hosted in Winterfell and the North. You can have one if you like ... but pay the gold price, not the iron price.

Does this chump think the megacorps are just going to absorb the costs of his electronic scammery and move on as if nothing happened?, of course not, they'll recoup their losses by bumping up the prices of their goods/services yet again.

    WIPO

The WIPO will seize and hand over to the corporation involved pretty much any domain which contains a trademark and the term 'sucks'.

I believe only once in their history has a claim like this been denied.

    Why not just...

buy sucks.com (or sucks.cn or sucks.tv or whatever's still available) for $10 and run sub-domains?

    And then how about dotsucks.sucks.com?

An expression of free speech and therefore exempt from WIPO/etc claims ?

.home is not going to be much use for some people. BT home hub overrides the .home domain.

I'm all for these new gTLDs, but this one is clearly one built to cause money and to scam fearful companies into defensively registering a domain.

It could also be used for Cyber Bullying.

As a result, I hope ICANN tells them, "Thank you for your $185,000, but we are rejecting your application".

It will only cause ICANN embarrassment if they let this one through.

As with all things there are two sides to a story. As a consumer, I certainly want to know that a company I haven't heard of before are a legitimate operation who treat their customers with a degree of respect. And I will check out a company before risking my money.

On the other side of the fence, I work for a retailer and I have seen first hand people in our shops threaten to post negative feedback on forums in order to get a discount. And I have seen people post out right lies about us on forums when we have had good reason not to refund a product they have obviously broken.

If people have a grievance, they have no problem expressing their displeasure without this and I say that is a good thing. This firm are blatantly intending to extort money out of companies who just want to protect themselves from the kind of extortion I have seen and I hope ICANN sees that and rejects this application.

Take the item's serial number, and hand the customer a list of popular web sites where they can post complaints and bad reviews. And also show them the employee complaint site address http://notalwaysright.com/

Once upon a time, in the good old days, when I was your age &c, companies would/might be interested in criticism to help IMprove the quality of their PRODUCT.

If this goes through, who's going to register really.sucks and sell subdomains?

This whole tld thing is starting to sound like usenet... how long before we see the domain will.wheaton.really.really.sucks? (this is an example, I actually think Will Wheaton is a pretty cool guy).

  20. Old Handle

    I'm reserving judgment

This could be a genuinely useful TLD, unless they load it down with excessive fees and rules like .xxx company did.
