back to article Adobe sucks on Oracle brain drain for HTML5 game gain

Adobe seems to be juicing its software gaming credentials against HTML5 by grabbing some hard-core Sun Microsystems talent as they slip out Oracle's back door. Four senior and respected members of the old Sun Hotspot Java Virtual Machine team jumped clear of Oracle during March and April, and all four have landed at Adobe. …

    Hmmm...

...and I though St. Larry was a fun guy to work for. Guess I was wrong.

Mine's the one with the Oracle ID badge in the pocket.

    Thumb Up

    Title

How long did the title take to come up with, be honest?

    Yikes

If this manages to combine all the suck of ActionScript with all the suck of Java, it'll be horrible.

That's not to say that there aren't good bits of both. Just not very many.

Could it be that Oracle is not so good to work for.

Perhaps a lot of people are jumping from Oracle because it is not so good to be on a self destructive ship of fools. just a thought.

Suing for API - as patents ( We own your everything ) might have backfired in more than just concept. Maybe they are running before the walls fall.

    WTF?

    Out of the frying pan

I'm not sure a move from Oracle to Adobe is much of a step up. Dig Adobe's recent thing where they weren't going to apply any security updates to Photoshop CS5. It looks like there's plenty of corporate assholery in both camps.

So, I think we've got several ways to look at this:

    (1) the ex-Oraclers are getting a good bump in salary,

    (2) the API lawsuit indicates a corporate lack of faith in the thrust of innovation behind java itself, and this disgusted the ex-Oraclers, or

    (3) the ex-Oraclers really don't have much in the way of critical thought

Sad day for Oracle. Tony Printezis was one of the best PhDs out of Glasgow Univ and one of the brains behind the later HotSpot garbage collectors.

Of course, what else would one expect from a company that values lawyers and managers much more than techies ? James Gosling didn't last very long did he ? And now these guys. Anyone know if Guy Steele still heads up Sun ... oops .. Oracle Research Labs on the East Coast ?

I bet Oracle launches patent wars on people for doing some arcane garbage collection routines :)

    ?

HTML5 is not ActionScript's ECMAScript's cousin, JavaScript is. Just Sayin'.

Could be good, could be bad.

Depends on which way the culture transfer goes. Given the relative sizes of the cultures, I'd say the odds are bad. But then hey, I thought the odds of a Facebook IPO were bad.

    FAIL

    WTF?

"Adobe is revisiting ActionScript, which has gone virtually unchanged since its introduction in 2006" and "ActionScript is up against its ECMAScript cousin, HTML5"

Did you actually understand what you were writing about?

I'm not normally one to bitch and moan, and I don't even like Flash but this article is utter bollocks.

    Lets bet

I am absolutely sure oracle will sue these universally respected specialists. Thanks to their purchase of sun Java, we non enterprise users learned what kind of insanity rules them.
