Leisure Suit Larry could be set for a humorous return through a Kickstarter campaign that has already rounded up the original development team and seeks the remaining funding to get the title the green light. The widely loved Larry Laffer will be thrust back into the limelight through a complete remake of the original 1987 …

    Remake

The original is easy enough to get hold of. Why remake it? It's like the recent Dizzy remake. I already have the game on the Amiga and have completed it. I don't want it again with cutsey new graphics on my iThing.

A new game, well that's a different story. For the kind of money they are looking to raise why not have something new?

      Re: Remake

You say that, but the Monkey Island 1 & 2 remakes are absolutely glorious.

        Re: Remake

They are, but to be fair so are the originals.

If you haven't played them for 20 years then there may be demand for a remake. But since I never put away my Amiga I only find remakes hold appeal when they correct some of the issues with the original game.

Arguably the appeal of Larry was never the graphics, but the humour. And the humour is the same if it's in 4 colour CGA or retina display iThing.

    Already done

They've already re-made this once. I believe the re-make had high quality VGA graphics and other modern technology like that. I vaguely remember finding the password in the gents was slightly modified to work with the point and click interface.

AND arguably, the first one was already a remake of the text-based Softporn Adventure.

    Monkey Island remakes

It's probably me, but I was a little disappointed with the Monkey Island remakes. They looked gorgeous, and the humour was still there, but I found them rather tedious after becoming accustomed to games such as Fallout3 and Skyrim, inasmuch as most of the tasks in Monkey Island felt like the dreaded 'fetch quests' that blight RPGs.

Having said that, I have a lot of affection for Larry Laffer so who knows? But I can't help thinking that the Adventure Game genre has had its day and people demand more these days.

      Re: Monkey Island remakes

Monkey Island was a remake in the purest sense. The gameplay is exactly identical. At any time you can press a key to view the game as it originally was. I was completely happy with that.

    Meh

    A humorous return, eh?

Well that'll be an interesting difference from the original series. I recall them being only humorous if your mental and social development had stagnated at aged 13. Not to mention being clunky, antiquated (even when first released) and dull, dull, dull.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not as refined and uptight as you evidently are.

Well I do not care if my age stagnated at 13, but the lobster giving Larry an implied blow job was a hilarious episode in my view.

You may want to carefully remove that broom from your back passage and try to relax a bit.

    Thumb Up

Guys, please, please read the FAQ on the Kickstarter page!!

Guys, if you'd look at the FAQ on the Kickstarter page, it answers pretty much every question you could ask. They're doing a remake because Codemasters, who licensed the IP to them, *requires* it before they're allowed to develop a new game for the license. Also watch Al Lowe's update video, as well as Replay Games CEO Paul Trowe's(who playtested the EGA LSL 1 at 12!) for further info. Paul's is long, but pack with details and information. AND FOR THE RECORD, Al Lowe/Replay had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the two recent abortions bearing the Leisure Suit Larry name. Al makes this abundantly clear both on his website, and in interviews.

Also, this isn't just a "shiny coat of paint and glitter" remake. This is literally from the 'bones' up. In this interview(http://vimeo.com/40046424, starts at 6:00 mark), Al Lowe states that the Sierra archive was "flushed" during Sierra's "death spiral". It's GONE - they're literally doing all the artwork, ink & paint, and animation from scratch. They'll also be adding new voice overs(from the original LSL voice, Jan Rabson, and Neil Ross returns to narrate). They'll also add new content as their budget allows, to possibly expand the game a little. Believe me, these guys want nothing but the best for the LSL series, and ALL the classic Sierra adventure franchises!

More importantly, this is a HUGE STEPPING STONE. Replay(who are all Sierra veterans, by the way) are also negotiating with Telltale Games to get the license for Space Quest. And before you ask, Scott Murphy(one of the "Two Guys From Andromeda") has already said if they get the license, he'd be interested in doing a new game. Telltale also has the rights to King's Quest and Police Quest(and possibly Quest For Glory, but I'm unsure here). If LSL: Reloaded is a success, that opens the door for King's Quest and Space Quest to return, done by the Sierra veterans who made them a success. So if you want to see those series return in full glory, please, PLEASE support the Leisure Suit Larry remake. It can literally open doors if we help it succeed.
