back to article Giant paper plane thunders across Arizona sky

An Arizona aircraft museum reckons it has taken the record for the launch of the biggest ever paper plane: a 45ft (13.7m) long monster which glided to Earth last week from a height of 2,703ft (824m). Pima Air & Space Museum's hefty 800lb (363kg) Arturo's Desert Eagle needed a helicopter to haul its 24ft (7.3m) wingspan off the …

Riding on a big white paperplane

      Getting seasick, sorry once again

      Landing strip is getting nearer

Hope the fog lifts, make it clearer

      Then I realised my paperplane

Wasn’t really up there with me.....

      With apologies to Status Quo

By all accounts, it came straight down.

It was in the air for approx 15 seconds from ~2500 or 4000 ft, depending one who's account one reads. This does not, IMHO, constitute "flying". I think the ElReg Special Project Dept. ought to have some strong words. Incompetent plagiarism would be a good starting point...

One of my folded A4 sheet of paper airplanes would have taken *minutes* to get down from that height.

Well, that explains the lacking of a "landing" video, then.

So how many sheets of A4 (sorry, Letter) size paper would be needed?

to get the equivalent amount of paper.

Nice attempt, but could not match PARIS for altitude!

    Typical performance

Sadly the museum was taken over by the kind of folks who would think this was a good idea some years ago, causing a real flight of knowledgeable docents. The flight path of the "paper" airplane parallels that of the institution.
