back to article US adds more jobs than expected in January

The US economy added 243,000 net new jobs in January and the unemployment rate has ticked down two-tenths of a point, according to statistics released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS, part of the US Department of Labor, surveys businesses each month to track employee counts and surveys American households to …

I've kind of stopped believing things from the Glorious People's Ministry of Labor Statistics.

    Insourcing?

So it looks like jobs in IT were added while at the same time jobs in IT were ... lost. A deeper dive into the actual numbers might be interesting, but I wonder how many jobs were added/lost to direct employment vs. contracted services? The average hourly wage/weekly earnings numbers don't seem quite right though. I mean, how many people in IT do you know that work only a 40 hour week?

US adds more jobs than expected? No, adding more servants...

That is because no one in the US actually expects ANY jobs to be added with how stupid the Western Governments have been, with their obsession with killing domestic jobs, borrowing money from foreign nations, and transferring that wealth whole-sale to gas and oil producing nations.

It does not take a genius to figure out that when you are paying more and more money to people in foreign nations, for nothing more than the privilege of harvesting natural resources, that money has to come from somewhere - and that is by firing people.

The types of jobs available are not the type of jobs that people had, before the great bankruptcy by politicians like Obama. Obama is the U.S. food stamp president.

Once Obama stops (or is forced to stop) spending like a drunken sailor - all those low wage temporary jobs will disappear and even more people will be forced on government food stamps.

Obama is an idiot... or a genius... bankrupting the United States through the exact same failed economic policies as the Soviet Union. The destruction of The West couldn't be easier by a Red Communist sympathizer like Obama, who used to work for organizations like ACORN as a self-proclaimed community organizer.

There, there, take your medication and chill out a little.

Has it ever occurred to you that most of the jobs sent overseas has been done by US corporations in search of even higher profits?

        Of course they have

Many CEOs are pure scum. They are only interested in personal gain and they will do whatever is required to enrich themselves with windfall annual bonuses. Every CEO that want's to outsource U.S. or EU jobs should be forced to work in a Chinese sweatshop for five years - first.

Next month they will correct the number down

The media games are to bolster Bama's re-election campaign. Unemployment has been double digit for three years in the U.S. For those who don't know they STOP counting unemployed people who's benefits have expired. These are people who have been trying to find a job for years without success. So the unemployment rate drops as more and more people lose benefits. It's just another scamming of the public. Job creation as mentioned above can be temp. help, servants, i.e. domestic help, etc. and low paying or trivial employment that lasts a few weeks.

    @Paul - Higher Profits

Paul --- Has it ever occurred to you that most of the jobs sent overseas has been done by US corporations in search of even higher profits?

Companies are digging out of a great recession where costs to the business have dramatically risen (i.e. cost of energy) while pricing in the IT world has generally dropped, as normal. The suggestion that "higher profits" is the primary driver of unemployment is more of a denial of reality.

Dumb Presidents like Obama and his food-stamp voting crowd continue make it more difficult to get new sources for energy Federal Government owned land, and blocks new sources of secure energy from neighbors which have historic long relationships with America. This President and his dumb Democratic Congress members could not learn from former Democratic President Clinton with the changes made by a Republican Congress - drive down the cost of energy, drive down regulation which makes domestic employment expensive, and watch the domestic jobs return.

@Anon - pure scum, personal gain

Anon --- Many CEOs are pure scum. They are only interested in personal gain

CEO's for Companies who did not make financial adjustments with ever increasing energy prices are going out of business. With 2 American (redundancy) costing the same as a team of 4-5 Indians, sacking 1 American and replacing with a couple developers becomes a cost savings measure. The job of the CEO is to ensure that companies survive and thrive, to provide a rate of return for their shareholders, to secure the future of a company and all jobs involved.

With labor being less expensive in the 3rd world, CEO's are placed in a position where they have to be competitive, otherwise their product will not be purchased and their companies will go out of business. Ultimately, the cost of regulation in America, could drive down costs for domestic labor, but with Presidents like Obama, creating more regulation. More domestic (public lands) or continental (Candian pipeline) energy sources would go a long way to creating a lot of domestic jobs, very quickly, without borrowing money.

politicians are the ones who are pushing for personal gain... the pure scum...

President Obama and his Democratic Party controlled a significant portion of the U.S. government for 5 years, all branches of government for 2 years and most branches of government for the past 3 years. They are just dumb, or very smart (depending on your perspective.)

People on food-stamps and government subsidies are on the Democratic Party vote-roll (in addition to the dead a-la ACORN.) It is well understood in American electoral process that a 2x successive consolidations of a voting block can hold that voting block for generations. Keep ‘em poor, keep ‘em voting, keep in power - take the money from the other political party supporters to pay for their voting block subsidies.

Middle class is traditionally an independent voting block in the United States and this group moves back and forth too easily between the political parties in elections to satisfy either political party. Democrats by and large have no incentive, to see the general "middle class" thrive, since that is not their primary voting block. A rise in food stamps is a traditional rise in their voting base. Republicans want to see middle class people rise in income, to solidify their voting base. The middle-class is disdained by both major American political parties.

It is better for a nation to decentralize economic decisions, so if a stupid constituency elects a stupid politician, the damage is localized, and smart people can "vote with their feet" and buy a tank load of gas to escape - the jobs shift in the same nation.

When nationalization of economic policy occurs, companies "vote with their feet" and move jobs to foreign shores. The policies of the current American administration is more closely related to Fascism, even though his historical leanings are Communist. (Both leanings are Socislist in nature.)

    Hang em all

All of the unscrupulous politicians and CEOs should be hung by their thumbs for 6-12 months until they get the message.
