"“We don’t really need just another search engine, but if something adds value then why not?”"

I think the word 'value' says it all.

He must be runing out of dosh or fame points or something - but the first bit is right, we don't need another search engine. We just need people to understand how the existing ones work.

Anyway, Rick James uses his stuff far better

    From "1001 Second-Rate Chat-up Lines"

    "Would you like a wiredoo?"

    "What's a wiredoo?"

"It carries electricity and communications signals."

(Not as good as "wormdoo". Why yes, I *did* rip it off Red Dwarf- badly- thank you for asking!)

    Parachute pants?

Judging by that photo his trews are still too long, or he needs a belt (no not a slap round the head)!

    poor reporting Reg

Jokes aside, (and the above shows how easy)

How did Hammer get into Search engine technology?

Is he simply a spokesman for the organization or has he actually picked up some coding and programming skills in his retirement?

He has proven to be a clever character in the past....Now that he has declared Bankruptcy, and cut of the massive entourage (plus money from a few recent commercials) I could actually believe that he had some influence in this other than being a gimmick face for the company....but that's what the reporter writing the article is supposed to FIND OUT!!!.

thumbs down to reg for repeating some news but adding nothing to it..Next time at least tell us how he is involved.

A quick look at a few similar articles revealed two key bits of information: Hammer is homies with a lot of tech nerds in the SF area, and is a venture capitalist, so he is probably just helping fund/promote the service.

More important fact: Google's Brin was in the audience. So it appears that if Hammer has any brains, he has already filed for patents on the business process/technology, and is most likely looking for a quick (but profitable) pay out from Google.

    Who knows?

Say what you want about Mr. Burrell/Hammer, but he's not a dummy. (Personally, his music always bored the piss out of me, but that's neither here nor there.)

His biggest mistakes --- which he has hopefully learned from --- were in who he trusted with his money when he was riding high, and assuming his style would last longer than it did. He forgot that hip-hop fashion doesn't age like wine, but like yogurt.

Look, he's a smart guy with a good work ethic, so hey, more power to him.
