    The difficulty for Google is to keep focused on developing products while defending its business against US and European regulators.

    Really? Thought one area was done by lawyers and the other by techies.

    Ahh sorry Google don't need to play by rules as they Do No Evil....

      Good thing thats not true

      Or else sites like Bing, Blekko, DuckDuckGo, etc. would be polluted with the same junk search results Google gives you. Luckily Google's sinister "search engine quality" team of "engineers" were only able to inject 7 spam links for search terms with zero results. Otherwise Google's "don't be evil" and "but it's all about making the user happy, not sabotaging other business so they can't provide a superior service" catchphrases might seem a little thin if they weren't able to use the search engine duopoly to cloak their real business practices, and that would be bad for Google. Not only would they need to find a new bad guy (maybe Facebook?), but they wouldn't have any distracting headlines to push to the media when they get in antitrust trouble for several markets outside the search engine one.

      Still, I have a bad feeling they hadn't intended to kill Bing right off anyways. They still have a couple hundred businesses to buy out or run out of business and they still need a bad guy for their blogs to talk about to cover the real problems up.

    The difficulty for Google.

    Surely focussing on developing products isn't a problem? If that's all they were doing there'd be no issue anyway.

    I suspect that it's their ongoing* mission to pwn the whole internets and everything attached to it that's proving difficult to sustain amid the regulatory scrutiny.

    *Possibly evil too. At the very least there must be a long-haired white cat in there somewhere.
