    Small m?

Is "m" the accepted way to abbreviate "million"? I would have assumed "meter" or "milli"

      (H)mmmmm

In written articles, 'm' is often used as an abbreviation for 'million' after a number and the context should define it with no ambiguity (as it did here).

With money, the currency symbol comes before the number, so remembering that the scale prefix comes before the unit......

      M£20(?) = £20m = £20,000,000

So why do job adverts say 'Up to £30k for the right candidate', etc ?

        Currency symbols...

Currency symbols do not always come before the number. Here in France, the € symbol often appears after the number or in the middle: four euros fifty will be either 4,50 € or sometimes 4€50.

In general, the leading position is used in the English-speaking world and Latin America, while in the rest of the world it is more common to use the trailing position.

So, if by "money" you mean "pounds", then spot on, otherwise please try again.

          Ah but.....

Not just pounds; the Irish euro symbol goes before the amount (as do others).

"The revolution will not be televised"

"The former Egyptian government also commandeered mobile phone networks to send pro-regime texts to Egyptian citizens."

The revolution will not be televised ... tweeted, re-tweeted, messaged, poked, FB'ed, liked, or spoken of.

Thankfully democracy, like information will always seek a way to be free.
