Wot - no Crapita, IBM,ATA etc?
What is the world coming to. Surely a Goverment agency hasn't finally learnt from history!!!
A single-supplier tech framework with the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust that is worth up to £1bn over a maximum of four years has gone to Dell Technologies. The agreement – which provides no guarantee of spend – was awarded at the end of last week by Health Trust Europe (HTE) LLP, which …
The list of requirements from the hospitals' trust includes PCs, data storage, digital tech devices, enterprise servers, enclosures and power, networking gear, peripherals and "any other items which may be reasonably described as hardware."
Hardware you say? Respirators?
Either reclassify Respirators as IT equipment, or, add some IT subfunction into them. The respirator model that is also a switch?
The trouble with all these frameworks is that the allow people to buy stuff more easily. There is however no guarantee that they are actually still getting a good deal as the contract progresses. Also, this will end up with technology lock-in as so much of the systems behind the scenes is only designed to work with that supplier. If they are already a large Dell shop, them maybe it was a good decision.
Invariable they also prevent you from then going outside of the framework so compromises have to be made.
Frameworks are a double-edged sword and Dell is well known for buying the business with sexy deals up front but far less support once you are into replacements.
