back to article Prospect union urges members at BT: Say yes to pay and grading shakeup revisions

Prospect the union has advised BT employees to approve the so-called People's Framework, a programme of change that includes a revamp of pay and grading structures, following months of discussions. Previously, 96.3 per cent of BT workers who are Prospect members voted against the proposals in a ballot on 13 March. At the time …

    Won't someone think ..

So, having decided to cull long-serving and experienced staff they are giving the most junior staff a pay rise. Apart from that what else did Prospect gain directly for BT employees, because it sure as hell looks like they didn't help those 13,000 (could actually be 25,000) on the chop list and only seem to have used the negotiations to secure better terms for. ..err .. Prospect?

Icon: because there isn't one for the poor adults, even BT ones.

    For info

Prospect is the managers union. The CWU is the one for the poor plebs that work up the poles and down the holes etc .

Thanks for that. I was struggling to figure out the starting wages quoted in the article (knowing some non agency BT workers).

      Makes sense now.

I’d think that would be another reason - apart from the Tide coming in and out on Core Business v’s diversification - that all those pesky poor people who worked at BT Facilities got turfed out to CBRE and ISS. Cleaners, handy-man,Internal postage services etc

    Personal Interests

Prospect have managed to get a large increase in min AND max for senior grades and a small increase in the most junior grade where most of the genuine workers sit.

Unfortunately most of the genuine workers are fairly long service and likely to get a significant pay cut - despite what the union is saying this is a bad deal for the majority. It makes you wonder what grades the union "staff" within BT are.

The problem is that the company sees a lot of IT professionals as low level "managers" rather than more "senior" engineers.
