    On most operating systems these will be installed automatically

    On most (modern) operating systems, those "patches" will be installed automatically, making your PC somewhat slower once more.

        Windows and MacOS off the top of my head

          The Linux kernel contains microcode updates as well.

        This has to be loaded on each reboot anew. Windows, MacOS, Linux and others do this automatically (most distributions by default, that is).
