back to article Buck up, UK.gov. You need to get a grip on failing shared services centres - PAC

    Let's face it

There are lies, damn lies, and estimates for savings on UK government IT projects.

"In a report today, the Public Accounts Committee said ongoing failures of leadership and governance must be addressed urgently if [- PROJECT IDENTIFIER -] are to deliver expected savings to the public purse."

Just put that into any article about government IT projects. Job done.

    " effective governance "

    of the Civil Service.

Seems to be an ongoing theme, does it not?

From what I've seen this stuff works best when the departments/organisations/councils/whatever are on quite good terms with each other and are prepared to adapt to standardize around a shared way of doing something.

26 to 2 (and only 2 actually transferred). Sounded over optimistic from day 1.

The see-saw of constant change when a new administration comes in does not help.

Normally Conservative Direction changed and Labour Direction put in, though the tearing up of whole departments by Theresa May is more chaos, and a (relatively) short lived Dept of Madness/Brexit.

    Unnecessary Change

I don;t think anyone will be remotely surprised. All that was needed was a central info repository/redirection to existing sites that already worked - nbot huge effort to consolidate into uk.gov.

    Bonkers.
