back to article Junior defence staffer on trial for 'posting secret dossier to 4chan'

An Australian Department of Defence worker faces trial for allegedly posting a classified file on oddball message board 4chan. Michael Scerba, 24, is charged with “unauthorised access to or modification of restricted data," and "disclosure of information by a Commonwealth officer.” On Thursday, Fairfax Media reported that …

    WTF?

    Whats more stupid?

    1. Stealing top secret documents from your employer

    2. Posting on 4chan and expecting a sensible response.

This guy did both? that's got to be worth a Darwin award or two!

Do you even know what a Darwin award is?

If it really was that important. a Darwin award (provided he has no children) might be appropriate - when the NSA get to him

More stupid would be responding to your post so well done there, much better than what you likely posted at 4chan which I suspect was:

      1. Gay

      2. Fake

    He accidentally the whole thing

I am 12 and what is this?

      improperly disclosed.

There is nothing wrong with being 12 that a dose of patience wouldn't cure. Adults sometimes do the most stupid things. I got banned from Reddit for forecasting an earthquake on a geology? forum.

I laughed at the stupidity this man got into. Once you steal something you are marked in your heart and you can't take it back.

An hour later the public post was deleted after other 4chan inhabitants, unsurprisingly, declared it "fake and gay," Hopefully you have never been there that too scars without healing but it isn't as bad as pornography you can't unsee that.

It is reported. Scerba is accused of uploading the 15-page document in October 2012. The leak was apparently spotted by a former Australian intelligence agency staffer, who alerted the authorities. So even removed material is seen by keen by-passers who should behave a lot better than they do.

According to court records, the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory heard last Thursday that “sensitive information contained in a classified report by the Defence Intelligence Organisation" was allegedly "improperly disclosed.

A double whammy as posting it on line was as stupid as a very silly thing but posting it to a bunch of 4-year olds was worse than posting anything to Reddit.

There are so many good things to learn and do and see online. Wait until to are too old to care before you go looking at indecent things.

The galling thing was having ignorant fools disrespect you but it turns out I got the magnitude wrong but no one knew that when I was banned.

    Meh

Not all of 4chan is a cesspit....

...that's mainly /b and a couple of other NSFW boards; some are almost "normal" by web standards.

Indeed. It's just /b/ and other NSFW boards. Mostly, if you avoid that board your fine. Unless you are a /b/tard then any website on the internet is probably fine. Lot's of boards are really fun. I like the papercraft & origami board.

After what happened with Bradley (Chelsea?) Manning & especially Snowden why on earth did he have the opportunity to burn sensitive material to a CD in the first place?

It's interesting to see how the authorities never want us to think about how they managed to cock things up too.

In line with 4chan, mods behaved like faggots!

      Re: Appeared on /pol/?

That reaction from 4chan is just what the spy agencies would want.

If I were a government bod, I'd litter sensitive documents with 'kewl' and 'wicked', along with a running commentary about what a cutie Amanda Seyfried is.

That way, even if someone did leak the documents, nobody would believe they're genuine.

He should have also stripped *all* of the metadata - proxies ain't no use when you can identify the source of the document and work forwards from that

    What a numpty....

"Julian Assange is my hero" he declares.... Ok, lets think that through from his position.

He obviously believes in what wikileaks do, and he obviously believes that any sort of state secrecy is not a good thing. Ok, fine, so why does that make Julian his hero? Surely, believing as he does, Chelsea Manning should be his hero, for it is Manning that made the larger sacrifice for no personal gain.

  9. Frank N. Stein

Edward Snowden wannabee? That didn't quite work for this one, did it?

    "Julian Assange is my hero.”

Which is why I did not post this trove of vauable intelligence to his anonymous document publication service, buit sent it to 4Chan so it could be properly appraised by their resident loon council instead.

Who then raised the fiasco quotient by declaring it "fake and like that".

*Cue theme tune to Laurel and Hardy short*
