back to article Want to be an unpaid SLAVE for Tim Cook? How to get the iOS 9, El Capitan public betas

Apple has - out of the goodness of its heart - allowed everyone, not just developers, to help it get its new El Capitan and iOS 9 betas debugged. For no money. Users will now be able to try out the upcoming version of Apple's mobile operating system prior to its general release in the fall. Getting the new version of iOS will …

    1) Archive an iOS backup (but haha we didn't put the archive option in iTunes for Windows, MS LUUZERS)

    2) Download Profile (but beta.apple.com is running on a classic powermac that's stuffed in the corner of Tim Cook's old bedroom, so it might not work all that well)

    3) Update your iOS device (but you can't cos you actually have stuff on your phone taking all the space cos we put you off buying the bigger one by charging $100 for an extra 16GB of flash).

Winner, Apple. Furiously deleting stuff off my phone right now.

Can we now expect article after article telling us how much the unfinished preview software from Apple sucks, or is that just a Microsoft thing?

Since the switch to yearly releases for MacOS Apple avoids a lot of problems be doing incremental changes. It still manages to bugger up the odd thing, particularly ITunes, but otherwise there are generally few surprises for MacOS. It's usually a slew of new API calls and some tweaking of the UI. However, my experience has been not to upgrade until the first patch release is made: even the public beta-testing doesn't seem to catch many of the hardware issues .

IOS is, by all accounts, a different kettle of fish.

The Reg has covered previous betas in detail, especially the IOS fuckeries.

Well, seeing as the release software usually sucks it isn't a hard parallel to make innit?
