    About time

It is inconvenient when you can't park your Jet nearby. The roads are so full of...well...you people.

    The real question is...

Will Google welcome Jets owned by Bill Gates, Larry, I have a huge ego Ellison or any Apple Exec?

Will the notoriously private people who use private Jets willingly subject themselves to Google Snooping and advertising?

Well you can't land there unless you sign up for Google+

As far as I know MS don't have a private jet, IBM have one and Apple had one but it actually belonged to Jobbs, so not sure if they still have it.

Google had six last time I heard. The expression "get a grip" springs to mind.

        I'm ex-Intel ... we used a rented coke-burning Embraer Bandierante.

Catch the bus outside the main gate.

Drive through side-gate at San Jose Airport.

Get off bus -climb 4 small steps with communal box of donuts.

Fly to Mather AFB. (30 mins)

        Bus to Folsom.

        Simples! Sheer luxury.

Speaking as someone who spent way too many hours in the back of a Bandit (2 hour flights to/from the middle of nowhere), you have my sympathies.

They must be offsetting CO2/other pollutants by convincing their employees to share buses instead of driving in individually in their own cars. Google do like to keep us all informed of their new "green" air-con and use of solar/wind power in their data centres.

It almost makes one wonder if all that green propaganda is just a side benefit of cost savings and access to funds from green energy grants,

    WTF?

    Mystery...

I don't understand why they need six private jets to conduct their business? Why don't they just use Hangouts?

Or don't they want their 'wheel greasing' pay-offs to international politico's and persons of power to be on the record?

    Us and them.

Not content with driving people out of SF and other areas they want their own transportation that the serfs are not allowed to use.

Well I'm pretty sure you wouldn't like your car being co-opted by the Collective either.

If Google as a company need to shuffle hundreds of people over long distances each year, doesn't it make sense to do a deal to basically build your own terminals right next to where you need them to be? It's not like they are robbing people of the terminals that are already there, and do you think the council would be spending $85 million if they weren't getting something out of it? You know, something that might mean lower taxes, better services or both for the people living there?

I'm probably one of the more cynical people here, but all I see from this rainy island is win/win for everyone involved. Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but time will tell.

Tell you what mate... I'll give up driving two days a week if you give up your corporate jet.

    No deal? Then STFU.

That's a long bus ride for San Jose airport to the Googleplex. I hate that drive. I guess it's more palatable if someone else is doing the driving...

    Not unusual

Companies all round the world operate private jets, BAE systems operate one from Warton to farnborough

BAe? Formerly British AEROSPACE, involved in designing, building, maintaining, and also at time downing, many many wingéd type vehicles globally?? I'd be a bit concerned if THEY didn't operate any aircraft of their own.

Google the Internet Advertising People though, not getting the connection there (other than obscene wealth).

        Re: Not unusual

I suppose only General Motors should be allowed to have a company car fleet?

No haulage unless you're into postage?

Can a business buy a Ford Transit if it isn't a building firm?

Oh, and do the vending machines in the cafe have to be taken out if it's not a Starbucks?

Really, I'm not seeing the problem here. Google have struck a deal, a new terminal is being built. They ain't taking an existing one. They're not robbing people of the ability to get cheap flights to Bumfuck, Ohio. Wouldn't surprise me if part of the deal means it becomes even easier to do so.

        But let's see, eh?

  11. bigtimehustler

People saying get a grip, or this is outrageous etc... it is all their money so to be frank they can spend it however they please, in much the same way I don't get involved in what car you buy or how you choose to get yourself on holiday.

    Green Google

We wouldn't mind so much, if Google weren't continuously preaching about how green they are.

    - "Green" data centers.

    - Gmail is more efficient than desktop email solutions

    - Solar panels on roofs

    - Bike-to-work program

    - Publishing precise figures of how many tons of CO2 they have saved

    - Investing in wind farms, bulk-purchasing renewable energy

They have a lovely website back-slapping themselves:

    http://www.google.co.uk/green/bigpicture/

    With quotes such as:

"Our commitment to reducing environmental impact extends to our offices worldwide"

Do you see any kerosene-guzzling Corporate Jets whizzing around that Green Google page? Is building a new terminal really showing commitment to reducing CO2 emissions?
