One Ring to rule them all
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all,
And in the darkness bind them.
A new smart ring which displays the time and alerts from the user’s phone has been getting the interwebs all in a flutter this week. Smarty Ring was the brainchild of Chennai-based mechatronics engineer Ashok Kumar, according to CBC News. A flashy web site offering pre-orders explains that the smart jewellery is compatible …
I was amused at the point in the video where they mention that there's a "clock at your fingertips" - the model has the ring on upside down from his point of view, and is wearing a watch.
Whaddya mean, it's an advert and I'm not supposed to notice things like that, and instead just be sucked in by it?
"...the team behind Smarty Ring have apparently not yet produced a working prototype..."
Aye, there's the rub.
If they could actually make this it would be pretty cool. But despite advances in display tech, I have a hard time believing that something in the form factor shown can be made - especially for two and a half.
Now, if they wanted to replicate those hideous class rings that are common here in the US at least, they could fit an entire server farm in there...
Meh. I was thinking about it longer ago than that. Could do with a gyroscopically stabilized picoprojector, really. And I was kind of hoping for powering it by a similar mechanism to electronic self-winding watches.
I really must get a 3D printer and try to make all the things I "invent"...
