    "Mike Dell and Silver Lake Partners have put forward a plan to take Dell private at a price tag of $13.65 per share, or $24.4bn, and already have backing for around half of their plan from banks and Microsoft."

    I hope Mike does take Dell private. With Microsoft money being used, it means almost certain death. AT the very least their market share will plummet; just look at Nokia. They went from selling over 130 million smartphones a year to being less than 30 million and that includes counting some feature phones as smartphone sales.

    Adiós Dell, it wasn't nice knowing you and your shit products.

      You're suggesting that it was MS that caused Nokia's downfall? Good luck arguing that.

        Not difficult

        Symbian might have been in trouble or not, that is arguable. But if Nokia had gone the Android way, it is almost certain that they would have a higher market share nowadays.

        Yes, it is an easy argument to win,

        Nokia sales:

        2009 100 million Symbian smartphones were sold.

        2010 134 million Symbian smartphones were sold.

        Q1 2011 was more than Q1 of 2009 or 2010. So the growth was still there.

        Q1 2013 Nokia sold 5.6 million Lumia models and Q4 2012 was 4.4 million. Hmmm, WP doesn't seem to be selling like Symbian did. If you add the entire year up, it didn't match a single quarter of Symbian sales.

        So yes, Nokia was far better off with Symbian than they have been with WP.

          Symbian-powered phones != smartphones.

          iOS/Android/BB10/WP-powered phones == smartphones.

          There's a reason why Apple is not quaking at the prospect of Nokia selling 134 million Symbian feature-phone back then in 2010 you know?

            Technically

            ... neither were the first iPhones more than a pricey, shiny feature phone due to the lack of apps. Yet they were still counted as smartphones back then (they turned into one when they released the iPhone OS 2.0, now retroactively known as iOS 2.0.

        MS did crash Nokia

        While Nokia wasn't doing so hot before the Elopocalypse, they still had a large share of the smartphone market. Elop's switch to WinPhone killed a thriving market overnight, and replaced it with a DOA platform. Real bad move!

    I don't care for Dell products, BUT

    Icahn will do what he always does: load the takeover with crushing debt, then "cash out his chips", leaving others to deal with the fall out...

    Go Carl! Go!

    I won't tell you where until you get there.

    ...

    But here's a hint: It will be warm and toasty. Perhaps a bit too toasty for your taste, but well, it will be fitting.
