      For the same reason you can get a .info or .biz for pennies, because it isn't as popular or easily remembered as .com

    Because there is only one source for .com domain names, its entirely to be expected that the price will continue to rise and rise

    Who will pay for the new TLDs if .com is cheaper...

    Who will pay for the new TLDs if .com is cheaper, gotta start pushing the prices up now so that when the other stuff comes online, it wont seem so expensive.
