And its not only Giggle ...

There was a car of very similar design to the Giggle fleet being driven down the Marylebone Road in London on Thursday morning. It was in Navteq livery. The camera mast was down, so it was not operational at that time.

    How about...

...educating Czechs in securing their WiFi?

Google do deserve slapped for that one. How much to they pay their lawyers and that can't get a simple thing like registering as a Data Controller right? Sheesh.

    Avoiding busy times.

I for one cannot wait to see Google Night View -- finally find out what my cat's up to after midnight, count the local foxes, and see what shenanigans the locals engage in.

    Stop

    Privacy?

"Tourist information stands must also be forewarned when the fleet of cars descends."

So they can clean the streets especially?

    What's the problem?

Google trolls around the streets taking *lots* of photographs. It then processes them to (a) remove personally-identifying information, and (b) stitches them together and effectively geotags them.

Tourists troll around the streets, taking, in aggregate, *lots* of photographs. They then (a) take no trouble to remove any personally-identifying information and (b) upload them to Picassa, Flickr, Facebook and a hundred other sites, possibly with geotags.

Leaving aside the Wi-Fi slurp, why is it that Google gets the bad press and approbrium? Shouldn't we equally remove the rights of citizens to own and or operate photographic equipment?
