    Interesting business chess move

    So Intel are going into the OS business?. Microsoft won't like that. Is this a sign of a crack appearing between them. Are the two of them starting to split up? Could we see Microsoft's future OS versions running more on ARM as they start to go their separate ways?

    Time to get some popcorn. :)

    Maybe, but not in the way you seem to think.

    There is no overlap of any meaningful sort between a WindRiver OS and Windows for x86. On paper there might be some overlap between a WindRiver OS and Windows CE. but since no one sensible uses WinCE, especially in the kind of kit where a WindRiver OS might fit, there's no overlap there either.

    Allegedly.

    In the market sectors where Linux is interesting or tolerable, why would anyone with a free choice prefer Intel chippery over (as a hypothetical example) ARM? (That may soon apply as much to low end servers as much as it already applies to consumer electronics).

    You sure Intel were in the OS business ? Or were they in the desperately-trying-to-protect-lowend-x86-business business?

    yeah, but everyone know's "WindRiver OS " is not as good as QNX RTP6 dont they !

    now RIM own them is there something to be said for RIM entering the Arm Server space etc too, after all RTP6 was ported to Arm and others a long time ago now....
