Don't know what's killing them--it isn't us--but someone should tell these "hyperintelligent" beings that swimming is obviously not a good idea, at least for the young ones!
TBF Computer Neural Networks were inspired by the biological ones. They are similar at a very simple level - which may be all that is necessary. They have copied models of Nematode NNs with 'interesting' results. At the moment we are playing with basically layers of nodes feeding layers of nodes whereas nature has more convoluted nets, the functions of which we currently dont know. We have wired up NNs in the convoluted form found in nematodes but we have a way to go to work out which keyboards to plug in and where and how to initialise the net before we can simulate a nematode, I think we are circa 1950 digital computer stage with NNs but we have the equivalent interactions of the IOT to evaluate and experiment with. Oh and fucking contrary organic NNs wandering around kicking over the chess sets to deal with too,
The current NN craze (CNNs, deep learning etc.) have pretty much nothing in common with the real thing in which the individual neurons have complicated time-dependent dynamics even before cyclic connectivity give the network itself complicated dynamics (difficult things which are intentionally avoided in artificial neural networks). Many years ago I was in Santa Fe at the Complex Systems institute where I met a mathematical physicist (ex-string theorist I think) who was trying to work out how the different modes of 'chewing' in the stomach of a lobster were produced by the 12 neurons in the somatogastric ganglion of the lobster - repeat just TWELVE neurons. He was part of a whole team of heavy duty applied mathematicians, they hadn't made a great deal of progress in understanding the 12 neuron system when I heard about it (but they did do experiments and got to eat their subjects once the experiments were over, which was good). It is relatively simple to construct a model that approximates the neural network in a nematode (although figuring out how much detail you need in the models of individual neurons to adequately mimic the behaviour of the real thing is tricky), but that is utterly trivial compared with understanding how the properties of network give rise to particular patterns of neural behaviour and understanding why these patterns of neural behaviour are of use to the organism as a whole.

I know digital signatures have been around for decades, and are widely used in various industries, but its probably time they become mainstream with consumers and "normal people" tech.
Digitally signed videos/photos etc.... Though, I'm not so sure how anyone would go about spreading the tech. It'd basically have to be driven by Apple, Google and Microsoft at this point - slap it in phones and tablets.
How long before start to hear claims in court that "Your Honour, the CCTV in evidence is a deep fake. The accused was never where the CCTV shows."
Elsewhere on El Reg today, there's an item about cameras hacked via WiFi. "Your Honour, my client never took the pornographic images found on his camera. The images have been placed there by malicious hackers."
In fact, a useful (future) defence against ANY computer-evidence based accusations goes like this: "Your Honour, all the computer-based evidence against my client has been planted by hackers. None of it is relevant to actions of my client. I suggest that the prosecution PROVE that my client is involved in any way."
"Security", "Keeping us safe".....all BS.
