Yet another mess which we created ourselves

Kosovo... Yet another "perfect radicalization cook-pot" whose creation we sponsored and facilitated...

That is of course in addition to rubbing up Russian's nose the fact that "the right to self-determination is something which only we decide, it is specific to our client states and you can go f*** yourself - if a minority sympathizes with you they are not allowed to have that".

Um sorry but what on Earth are you actually getting worked up about? One Kosovan got radicalized, and is now going to spend a long time in jail? How many French, American, British people have been radicalized? Heaps. So I assume that's not what your going on about.

Perhaps it's that the West supported Kosovan independence? Is that really something you consider a problem? That a place that was already being run as effectively an independent state with a vast majority of one nationality forming the people of that state, and wanting to break away from another state that is a majority of a different type of people. I don't get the point of trying to hold countries together when they can be relatively clearly broken up and they quite clearly hate each other with a passion. Now you have two countries, which are at peace and where the people are happy that they have control of their own lives. The only unhappy people, are the ones that now find it harder to cling to power by being unable to point at the other people and say those are the bad people and without me they will kill you.

To be honest a lot more countries could benefit from being smaller countries - Iraq and Libya come to mind as being relatively easy to break up into their constituent parts.

Your final comment about the west being the only ones allowed to determine someone's right to self determination (an oxymoron if ever there was one), is patently false when you check out any number of areas on the Russian borders - South Ossetia, Abhkazia, and Transnistria, are all breakaway states that the Russians facilitated including sending troops to in order to help them "self determine". So don't start on about how the west are the only bad people out there. Russia's in on the act as well...

        Breaking up Iraq & Syria

That might have just about been possible if they had no oil, but the seats of power in both countries are not located where the oil is, so that's a non-starter.

It only worked in the Balkans (and only after a fair amount of bloodshed) because there wasn't much there anyone wanted - just a lot of people who will be forced to move from their ancestral roots, something which such simple minded solutions apparently don't consider worthy of consideration.

I quite like the term "medieval terror bastards". Accurate, with a dash of wit.

"This successful prosecution also sends a message to those around the world....." that we continue to have crap security and instead of fixing it there's a small chance we'll track you down and prosecute you if you're stupid enough.

So does the company get a good kicking too, for failing to adequately protect this obviously sensitive data whose unauthorized divulgence can literally result in customers being murdered?

On June 13, 2015, he gained system administrator-level access to a server that maintained the website for an Illinois company (“Victim Company”) that sold goods to customers in the United States and abroad.

    What hacking?

That was cracking, at most, and probably actually just a skiddie running scripts with little or no idea as to how they actually work. But it definitely wasn't hacking.

    Hmm..

[if you provide material support to designated foreign terrorist organizations]

So does that mean all those people in Nu-Yawk who contributed generously to the IRA are going to jail?

    Hurrah!

"This case represents the first time we have seen the very real and dangerous national security cyber threat that results from the combination of terrorism and hacking,"

So for these many years of massive data slurping.. this is the first case? Sort of makes me wonder why all the rabid slurping then?*

*Right.. power and control of the masses... but the argument from the gov is about "terror".

Its not so hard to build a list of top ranking individuals. The information has always been in public view all along and I'm sure if you sent them all an email, technically you would be in their email servers as well. Its all about perspective I guess.
