    confused about the above comment , i'd think they'd love people to use weaker password words , it would make their job easier in the long run and as a uk tax payer ,

    it would cut their costs and save some money on their cracking software and we could use the savings on the NHS or something else

      It is probably a comment on thier own sysadmins.

      Password managers are good but only if they support all the platforms you are going to use to login to all those web sites/applications. The days of just using the one PC at home are long gone.

      Strategically, the UK Gov might want more data, but doesn't want its citizen's (and corporate organisation's) data to be snaffled by some other nation states.

        No because GCHQ don't want foreign governments/criminal organisations breaking into British corporate, government and citizen networks etc...

      Well, sort of - but once a password has been established, it's cheaper still for them (and therefore us) to carry on using it.
