EMC
I guess that sales must now be so bad that they have to create pretend data centres to pretend to sell kit to. It's either that or just sit there and cry....
EMC can now simulate the interactions going on inside a data center using virtual servers. A data center is one of the most complicated structures on the planet. However, this is not because it necessarily has more physical components than any other complex piece of infrastructure, like a petrochemical refinery for example. …
BOFH 2013 Ep 9:
....
"Yes, well, is it slow?"
"Let me see," I say. "I'll just fire up the system monitor."
>clickety!<
>...A minute later...<
"Well?" the Boss asks, "how long does it take to load?"
"It's loaded!" I reply.
"That's just a picture of the Earth from space!"
"Yes - it's actually a picture of 'the system' as you call it. Now how far do you want me to zoom in?"
BOFH Stardate 56844.9
"That's here? The local system? Does it have enough capacity for our cloud? We have a lot of data, and it's growing!"
"Well, if you really need more capacity, I know a company named Bok can supply just the cloud you need. The storage density keeps increasing over time with no additional charges."
"Sounds great! Any drawbacks?"
"Mmmm, the network latency is longer than we're used to..."
This is what I so often do here whether it's simulating a system of computers for testing security scenarios or trying "weird" configurations for identifying improvements for the (network of machines) here. Ever since virtualization became usable on x86, I've been stuffing a ton of fast RAM and storage into my builds so I can torture something. That and do some awesome large/big data analytics and finite element analysis which is a very similar problem set.
BTW: Tried GitHub but the libraries are up at this time.
