back to article Google, Twitter search deal: Did micro-blabbing site gag racy tweets to satisfy ad giant?

Google will start displaying real-time tweets on its search pages after a deal was struck with Twitter. The change is currently only in the US and, at the moment at least, only on mobile devices. But in order to have access to its real-time feed Google is seemingly paying Twitter a standard flat licensing fee. If you search …

"Twitter has crawled to Google to get Tweets displayed in the ad giant's search results once again. The micro-blabbing site previously had a deal with Mountain View to provide feeds of tweets directly within its search results."

      Re: Pick one?

They haven't contradicted themselves. If you read the article Twitter have had to make a number of concessions to Google to get back in their results. Paying a standard licence fee is what you would expect, even Google aren't going to expect to pay nothing, but they certainly aren't going to pay a premium either.

This boosts an nasty proprietary service and poisons search results.

How do you turn it off?

I have no interest in receiving search results from Twitter. Or any other kind of communication from them

In gawd's name why would anyone want this?

Just so. I have lots of experience with Twitter, but I certainly can't defend it. Can I claim it was moderately amusing? However, now I would get more amusement from searching a sewage treatment plant.

    It's official:

... Google is the new Microsoft.

Have you ever seen a clearer case of "embrace, extend, and we all know what comes next"?

If only they would extinguish it… I fear, however, that they won't.

    the censorship comes

the other event that may have not been noticed or cared for by el Reg is the great consumer revolt by the gamers. Censorship was needed to silence their voices, else paetron profits were at risk by the friends of those that work at twitter. I perceive the clamp down on porn as being part of the larger "community (read: communist) guidelines" brought in a while back. certainly these events work in twitters short term gain.

ethical disclosure : i am one of the gamers, gated in my demand for ethics. (it's not an identity).
