I am yet to find a single improvement in a product which is triggered by a research on data from mass snooping but couldn't be identified on general surveys (on streets/questionnaires).
On the other hand, if speaking of wearables, where customer is directly paying for the product, it no longer justifies the companies' arguments of keeping and sharing of data with advertisers for financial viability.

Which is why we often need government regulation. One only needs to watch the show Breaking Bad or Scarface to see what business is like with no regulation (ironically as a result of a blanket ban). Market forces (other than maybe in the arms market) don't work worth a damn without at least some government as shown in places like Somalia or Kashmir.
