back to article Pirate Bay's 10 millionth upload: Colour us shocked, a SMUT FLICK

The Pirate Bay has hit a historic milestone after celebrating its 10 millionth upload. However, the auspiciousness of the occasion was dampened slightly by the fact the content in question was a pirated copy of a smut film from the "Intimate Lesbians" series. According to torrent news website Torrentfreak, the embattled Pirate …

I don't understand this at all.

I have it on good authority that Piratebay was blocked and banned..... It said so in the newspapers.

    We flicked through his uploads

out of curiosity, have you committed a criminal offense with your little flicking? I mean, by analogy: terrorist websites were banned, and it's illegal (am I wrong here?) to actually even open such a site, if a knowledge of its address came to you in your sleep. And terrorist manuals and anything else which might "abate the cause of terrorism" (flight manuals, how to brew an A-bomb, etc.) have also become illegal in the little Britain, aka the "land of the free". And the piratebay has gone that way too, right? Is it then still legal to browse through this site (its proxies) and "flick" through the vile material there, or am I committing a criminal offense myself by not reporting my suspicions to the nearest anti-terror squad pronto? I must consult my free anti-terrorist manual!

I don't know why you were downvoted, as far as I can see it's a legitimate, and interesting point you raise, if these sites are blocked, do you potentially commit an offence by bypassing the block?

      Have an upvote.

AFAIK, it's OK to look as long as you don't inhale download. As for bypassing a block, AFAIK it's not a formal legal requirement to censor/block, plenty of small ISP refuse to collaborate with it.

Actually, downloading is perfectly legal. It's uploading (distributing) that isn't.....

The problem with BitTorrent, however, is that you are obliged to make the files available for upload at the same time as you are downloading.

PirateBay - Red flag to MPAA and Hero to many

The embarrassing failure of the MPAA, and it's friends including the FBI and the US Vice-President, to close it down, illustrates the futility of trying to stop something that has public support.

May it sail the seas forever!
