back to article Speaking in Tech: The Snowden Effect... Why 2014 will be the year of PRIVATE cloud

speaking_in_tech Greg Knieriemen podcast enterprise It's the last SIT podcast of the year... and just in the nick of time, too. Your relatives are driving you up the wall, your brother's doing his cringeworthy Charlton Heston impression, the talk has turned to politics and there's no more wine... That's all very interesting but...

    Where's our snowy banner?

Hmmm, mayby it should be a soggy one this year.

I've set up private 'clouds' for a few people before. If you share a small area of you datacentre (boxroom in one case!) with a couple of other friendly companies where you host their offsite backup services and they host yours you get a reasonable degree of redundancy, it only costs you the hardware and the juice and a little IT time. You want it private you take the key disks over yourself and install it to avoid any MIM.

The expensive part is getting the lawyers to set up agreements - and that's orders of magnitude more than the hardware and running costs, or in small firms you can do it by mutual agreement over a couple of pints.

Might have to work out how to set up a brokerage for this sort of thing!

    It's sad

Snowden has done more to hurt U.S. and international security than most people can comprehend. You will suffer the effects in 2014 and long beyond.

Try shooting those who he exposed as doing wrong -- not the messenger.

Pull off your blinkers. The U.S. has done this to itself, quite simple. They consider anyone outside their borders as 'adversaries', no matter who. Many of the people are fine, as in every other country, but fuck the U.S. government.

The year of PRIVATE cloud ..

A 'private' cloud is a contradiction in terms, as in once its up on the cloud then it ain't private any-more, to think otherwise is to delude yourself ..
