The website supplier responsible for the DirectgovKids porno brand name gaffe that we first reported late last week has admitted it failed to spot the clanger when searching for the name via Google. Guardian Professional, which currently supplies the DirectgovKids site and its content, created an unfortunate brand name - …

That's probably because they didn't have a rigorous checking procedure. More likely than not there probably wasn't any searching via Google for the tag, maybe just the name Buster. So not very rigorous at all. Just because they make big huge government websites doesn't mean that they know what they are doing. Just read the latest report into the direct.gov.uk website and how it isn't being useful, in fact being counter productive.
And people ask why I'm an anarchist!
I hope you respond by asking why they aren't?
If everyone were an anarchist, there probably wouldn't have been an Internet to speak of. Or maybe I'm thinking of Libertarians.
So if you want anarchy nothing to stop me coming round your house ( no doubt you live somewhere and pay rent?! ) and shooting you in the head or nicking all your stuff and no one will stop me or tell me off?!
As an anarchist you have enough faith in "the system" to get a computer and expect electricity and internet to make your computer work then?
A bunch of interested individuals who co-operated to build a pan-world network without help from any corps or govts.
from Greek: ἀναρχίᾱ anarchíā, "without ruler"
However, it is true that the ignorant masses equate anarchy with a state of unconstrained death and chaos, but that is mainly due to the active and ongoing propagandizing by our <ahem> rulers throughout modern history.
You can see how they might benefit from having the seething masses believing such things.
@The Fuzzy Wotnot
nah, what's to stop me from killing you before you even try it. Also my neighbours would be joining in at you too because you upset the balance of the community. That is anarchy my friend.
Some might say it was the purest form of Communism (we haven't seen any truly communistic governments on this planet to date, just corrupt dictatorships)
you couldn't make this shit up....
So, when is the muppet in .gov that "APPROVED" it going to quit??
just ask BustersWorld to put one of those "CEOP buttons" on their web pages and everyone will be safe
Maybe I misunderstand their purpose, but aren't these CEOP buttons for reporting "paedo" or other illegal content.
Not being one myself (and I've got bairns to prove it, an' all) I'm not up with the intricacies of homosexual law, but I'm fairly sure that "that sort of goings on" is neither illegal nor analogous with kiddy-fiddling.
The OTHER "Buster's World". The one made by adults with the aim of making any kids who visit the site all happy and warm and fuzzy and ready to comply with their requests...
<quote>Guardian Professional’s head of digital agency Tom Jackson told The Register that the firm’s “usual rigorous checking failed on this occasion”.</quote>
That'll be the same rigorous checking that the Grauniad is famed for then.
By heck, I do believe you've got it! When you search for "Bistors Wurld", nothing nasty shows up.
How is compressing your files going to keep your stuff private. Or do you have to password protect the .zip files?
Maybe they did actually check but did so while using a government endorsed net filter which blocks all the nasty stuff that the plebs should not see. In either case it's another epic fail. I'm surprised they spelt it right to begin with.
I find myself unable to interpret this slogan in a way that isn't dirty. Maybe it's just my colonial ignorance showing ???
and their explanation is worse:
"Flag up with someone you trust if anything upsets you or if someone asks you to meet offline"
Can someone explain what "Flag up" means to a poor benighted yank?
...in this context means, bring a subject matter to someone's attention.
no gay fetish porn in the top few results there, promise. Although there might be the odd reference to seamanship
You fly your flag. In other words you wave at someone. Means to bring to someone's attention.
As an equally poor benighted Brit, I can't help. To "flag it up" would mean to bring something (the "it") to wider attention. However, the usage in your quoted passage is clearly as an intransitive verb and I've never heard "flag up" used in that way.
So that's UK and US usage found wanting. Are there any other English speakers out there who can help us with this one? Is it Australian, or South African? Or is it perhaps just a cock up on the part of some party hack trying to adopt the patois of people half his age and just making himself look a complete prick instead?
Paris, coz it must mean something kinky *somewhere*.
........That sounds like it could be a specialist subsection of a gay/whatever fetishist website. Has anyone done detailed searches to ensure that particular expression doesn't lead to anywhere inappropriate?
Last time someone did this and El Gov wanted to see what was in said protected file they locked them up until they gave up the password if I recall... In relation to the article, no surprises there, piss up and brewery comes to mind!
With all these new laws they must have broken lots of em with that gaff.
Think of the children !
...how many children ended up going to these "alternative lifestyle" pages?
AFAIU, wouldn't that make the parents in breach of various child safety laws? What about the idiot who failed to check for such name clashes in the first place?
is the point of that stupid dog website, the .net one?
Looking at it is like flashing back to geocities circa 1999 or so, back when pets with their own websites had just heated up the doublewide community in the rural South.
Speaking of dogs - K9 Web-protect should sort out the non-safe site (I would hope)
Buster is so transpondian. They should have known that.
