Ocarina is better at data reduction than NetApp according to a commissioned Swiss Tester, being better with just deduplication and much better when its compression (content-aware optimisation) is switched on. The report (pdf) was commissioned by Ocarina from Storage Switzerland, and compares Ocarina deduplication and …

    Shock result in vendor-commissioned survey

The world was stunned today to hear that a survey commissioned by a vendor, came up with results that favoured that vendor...

What is the world coming to - next we'll be hearing that criminals declare themselves innocent, bankers find themselves honourable, MPs claim the moral high ground and Intel deny distorting the chip market.

    Surely not

Oh my, NetApp would never engage in such biased surveys - this kind of vendor based testing must be a total shock to them. Oh that's right - they do it all the time. Tables are turned and they wont like it - watch out for the spin that's on it's way.

    Cost?

I'm guessing Ocarina has additional costs associated with it. I'd be interesting to see a cost comparison for their solution and the NetApp system they tested against. No point in these kind of tests if cost is left out these days. No matter who has paid for them.

    And on an iPhone too!

This just goes to show what a platform the iPhone is! After all, Ocarina is one of the better known apps available. Obviously iPhone Apps beat NetApps.

(what's that you say? Not the iPhone Ocarina?)

    Thumb Down

Kind of interesting when the Register has an Axe to grind

It's getting fairly obvious that the Register biases the news with information favors certain vendors.

    I have noticed the Register:

    favors Sun

    disfavors NetApp

    favors EMC

    favors the startups
