What about OpenOffice.org
is it not part of Sun portofolio?
IBM has released Lotus Symphony based on OpenOffice.org, Sun has StarOffice based on OpenOffice.org.
"It is standard policy in many large corporates that machines are left on so that software patches and virus updates can be remotely installed while the machines are not in use."
Have they not heard about WOL. Wake up computer, apply whatever, send it to sleep. Or make the updates part of shutdown procedure.
WOL doesn't work over wireless, but I guess not everyone in the enterprise went wireless, did they?
Thumbs down for incompetence.
But... does it work on Linux?
"You know I work at Microsoft, and that I love technology," it reads. "Sometimes I love Microsoft technology so much that I can't wait to tell people about it, and this is one of those times. Microsoft has just released the Release Candidate 1 for Internet Explorer 8, and I think you should install it and use it today."
OK, what repository should I add?
Until then, I'll be happy with Firefox on my Linux, Mac and Windows computers for a unified experience.
His netbook is not really his!
Is it mine?
Where do you go in Summer 2012?
Nowhere, but you are going to pay a £20,000 fine for mentioning Summer and 2012 together!!!
OK, so no more offers: Visit Tunis in Summer 2012 for a a £20,000 fine!!!
From the article:
The law means that advertisers cannot use any two of the following terms together: 'Games', 'Two thousand and twelve', '2012' and 'Twenty twelve'. Neither can they use one of those terms in conjunction with any of: 'Gold', 'Silver', 'Bronze', 'London', 'Medals', 'Sponsors', 'Summer'. Breaking the terms of the Act could result in a £20,000 fine.
what goes around, comes around
How should I know...
OK, so the Universal and their army of lawyers think about fair-use assessment as a "... a fact-intensive inquiry ...".
So how can I, as a "consumer" know that I can publish something on the internet in the good fair-use faith. I can not. I don't have the army of lawyers to help me asses this. It is better for me to abstain for publishing anything, even if I think it is fair-use, because I cannot be sure.
Shame on you Universal. Go f*ck yourself. Universal s*cks!
It brings back memories since when I was using Windows and Internet Explorer.
Please continue to enjoy your Windows experience, you have no way to escape.
The campaign is this:
The article says: The campaign will centre on a theme around the slogan of “Windows, not Walls”
and now, from an insider, the full ad:
"In a world without walls, who needs gates or windows?"
You said: "Fact is, Vista works. Vista is stable. Vista is fast. If you want to blame someone, blame Dell, HP, or whoever built your PC. They screwed you, not Microsoft"
Yeah, how do you compare how fast the thing is (Vista)? You run it on the same computer were you run the old one (XP). And it is slow.
Maybe you think that the software speed is relative, I mean run XP on a average 2001 computer, it is fast. Run Vista on the average computer of 2007, it is fast. But I like it to compare on the same hardware. It is slower.
Look at the Leopard. MacOSX will be faster *on the same hardware*
Look at Linux. It has the same speed on the same hardware, just more features every year. Heck, I even run full desktop effects (see Compiz) on the cheapest laptop bought in 2003, with 3% CPU usage. This is the meaning of fast.
Get the facts! ;)
I don't understand
From the article: The German constitution contains protections for an individual's personality. It says: "Every person shall have the right to free development of his personality insofar as he does not violate the rights of others or offend against the constitutional order or the moral law."
OK, so he didn't offend against the moral law?
AOL + Yahoo
He should be charged under DMCA
He should be charged under DMCA. He used a device in a way the manufacturer did not intended. He *openend* the disposable camera and he had a look inside. It is disposable, you are supposed to dispose of it, not to reuse. Make more garbage, the planet needs it.
Re:So what about
Apple is not a monopolist. They can bundle whatever they want.
Remember the phrase: Monopoly is not a crime. Abuse of monopoly is a crime.
Microsoft has abused its dominant position in one market (OS vendor), to dominate another market (multimedia streaming).
P.S. I don't own an Apple.
