Re: Y2Bug
<<No, this is just lazy arse coding of the worest kind!>>
-And that's spelling which won't get past the most generous parser. GOD!!! Children on this site.

Spot on! somewhere in my ex-wife's house in England there lurks a Linn Sondek. Played vinyl, but as a friend of mine (Peter C.) said "It plays tunes!".
Good ol' days, huh??

>>aeroplane humbug. back in my day, you caught the charabanc to town of a Saturday, and the train to Llandudno in the Wakes week, and the rest of the time, you had to rely on Shank's Pony. Young people today, flying in sardine cans around the world, it's not like it was when the Graf Zeppelin flew over.

Priceless!!!!

@ Darren Sandford
"Gah! Imagine trying to get to sleep when the streetlamps outside your window keep going on and off..."
Haven't you anything else to do? Getting the 'other half' 'going on and off' a few times a night would want me gettin' some of those lamps.
Maybe because she's Finnish.....

More ammo than hellfire missiles....
Wading through the documentation revels a new tactic.
Lob some kit at them a-rabs!

Was it so silly??
..After all, as the Chinese say "The longest journey starts with a single step". Sure, they're maybe not as good as a human (-who'd be creating at his/her union now, not seeing his wife/mistress/boyfriend/Uphill_Gardener and (maybe) kids for 3 3/4 years longer than planned)
But, like Sputnik and Laika, they've paved the way. Wasn't the earlier incarnaiton (running on a couple of AA's- what a bloody shame) called "Pathfinder"?

Where do you find the names???
Like..
Alan Sickbert
and the Clements FBISD Board President Steve Smelley...
You really couldn't make this up!!!

@Paul Stimpson
well...
Today, I did a total upgrade of Ubunutu from 7.04(Feisty) to 7.10 (Gutsy)
* <Student_Grant> "Actually" </Student_Grant>
it DID take much of the day. Went to pub, would've been faster, but I didn't realise it'd ask me whether I wanted to do this or that.
After the install (using it now) - it works flawlessly
So, why aren't we giving some serious FUD* to Ballmer? After all, he deserves it. Discovery should produce some interesting coding (==stolen=)
*Anyone remember when FUD was a nickname for female fenitalia - or am I too old? </coat>

@xyj - and others
Finland aint excluded. I know, I live here, and have a pocketful of coins - €'s with Finland on it.
OK. Maybe you don't know where it is, and have been looking at the site www.suomi.com too much
(Suomi is Finnish for Finland)
Who the hell is this bloke called "Texas", BTW???

Long, long pre-internet..
..I once worked at a company called "Nicolet Instruments"
Number of snail-mail letters we got addressed to "Dear Mr. Instruments"
Frightening thing, of course was the data was entered by 'real people'. Sigh

Priceless!!
Thanks! I stand erect to your writing, Sir!

Damn. Wanted to download...
...some SCO Brownware, couldn't even do it from SCOX(E/PK) site.

Idea!!
-Why not give em some of those Mars rovers? Seem to go for years on a couple of AA batteries...
Roadkill?
Hi
Actually, starting my first day - ever in 35 years - of unemployment, I decided to spend some free time writing a few cookery programmes "Cooking with KELA" (Kela being the Finnish unemployment organisation - Dole, if you like.)
Episode 2 was going to be "How to feed a family of 4 on roadkill".
Of course, you don't eat the roadkill - you feed it to your cat.
Then, eat the cat (then follows an argument on how to make rabbit stew, as your cat probably doesn't wanna be scoffed).
OK, for the curious. Episode 3 is planned on poultry. I wanna call it "Choking your chicken"
I've got my coat.

Skylab?
Wasn't there a kid in India named "Skylab Singh" because a bit of Skylab landed on the hospital when he was born?
Sure as hell do _NOT_ wanna be called "Smeg Smith"...
Bang goes another phrase...
...I used to think an alternative name for a "Ghetto Blaster" was a "Third-world briefcase".
Seems OLPC has beaten me to it...
My Arse sees a big fat AND..
(1) A person is in breach of this section if he—
(a) dishonestly makes a false representation, ==AND==
(b) intends, by making the representation—
(i) to make a gain for himself or another, or
(ii) to cause loss to another or to expose another to a risk of loss
So surely if a) is false, b) doesn't matter.
What is De Morgan now? Break the line, change the sign, do the time??
Pidgeon Post??
Been done.

Wayne Kerr...
...gets worse!
20 years ago, I worked for this company (Based on the South Coast. Fortunately, I now live in Oulu, a helluvalong way from there now). Yes, the owner gave it that name. Yes, he also knew its implications.
Reason? Film buff. Norman Wayne and Deborah Kerr were his fave actor/actress.
-D'ohhh...

Poor bloke!
Some poor sod's gonna get - at the least - disciplined just for having a larf!
Boobies, and anyone for a B.J indeed! Made me chuckle for the first time today...
