Simple economics - they think

If you don't have the repair manual, you'll just have to buy a new one won't you. Even if you're in the trade it's an expensive nightmare trying to get service manuals.

Re: Vote ME for Commissioner

I'm another oldie who won't be taking up a vote for the very first time ever. I have not the remotest idea what qualities a Commissioner needs. Nor do have any idea whether any of the candidates have those qualities.

As a long suffering taxpayer (who hasn't had a pay rise for three years) I strongly resent the total waste of my money.

He was an idiot, but immature, so he'll likely grow out of that.

Re: Co-operative multitasking

Indeed it can work very well, but it means that the programmers need to know what they are doing and write decent code.

P.S. The clue is the word co-operate.

Such a person would actually not be on this forum at all, but would have received notification of a little local dissent via the butler, who would then have conveyed his lordships views to the housekeeper, who's secretary would have posted a suitable rejoinder.

I find it curious that the authorities in the US seem to be determined to not investigate the security of their voting systems. There seem to be so many relatively obvious flaws in the current procedure you just can't help wondering if there is a hidden agenda.

This is in fact entirely in keeping with their modus operandi. They have never listened to their userbase. Anyone here tried making a suggestion? I know of a very practical one put to them years ago. First they ignored the submitter. Eventually, almost in as many words, they told him to go away and stop bothering them.

The idea... Drag-and-drop file saving RISC OS style, with example code showing how it could be integrated into the exisiting file manager.

Re: Burying the lines is expensive

Is that just installation or does it factor in long term maintenance?

Overhead cables are under constant variable stresses (even without hurricanes). Underground stuff needs almost no maintenance - If someone digs your cable up, they pay for it, not you. For example, in my street they had to upgrade the mains a year or two ago, only they didn't replace it, just ran another one in a new trench and jointed the two in a couple of places. The guys said the old one was installed in the 1970s, but that they still had live cable around that was lead sheathed, waxed paper and tar impregnated!
