Kaspersky Lab to create new OS 'to save the world'

Will Godfrey
Silver badge

Agree code should be completely in the open for all to see and poke about with, but I'd go further.

The OS itself should be in ROM.

The program should be in flash memory with a physical switch stopping it from being overwritten in 'run' mode.

The OS should disallow any code execution in RAM.

I don't have any difficulty using either Imperial or Metric, or even a combination of the two. I would guess the same is true for anyone with even a modicum of mathematical ability.

Will Godfrey

Does the battery generate heat itself while discharging? - apart from the exploding variety!

If so, that will help as you won't be trying to start the system at altitude, just running it while you get there.

Also, you could preheat everything while still on the ground - take the motor near to it's maximum safe temperature before launch.

For over-temperature protection you need something like:

Airpax sanata Part No. 67L070

These are very small (TO220) and operate as a simple switch in series with the heater.

Samsung expects whopping $7.3bn profit from mobes

Will Godfrey
Silver badge

The thing is, Apple only has one product, and that's not phones or tablets. It is 'Cool'. Should they ever lose that (not beyond the bounds of possibility) they are likely to sink like a stone. Samsung, on the other hand, has no 'Cool' to speak of, but it does have a huge product portfolio. I don't see it losing all of those lines in the immediate future.

OK - who just bought a biz PC? Oh wait, none of you did

Will Godfrey

I haven't bought a computer for about 3 years, simply because both of mine in daily use (and the netbook) are more than adequate for my needs. They are more than fast enough for what I do - and one is used as a DAW - better screen resolution than my eyes (apart from the netbook) and less than half the HD space used.

Why should I think about changing?

Although the actual code is probably unimportant, the algorithms used are another matter. These aren't likely to have changed much, and may reveal a logic error that could be exploited. If what Symantic does is wrong then who cares how they do it.
