No shock.

Another guy who's idea of what a threesome is comes from straight porn.

He assumed a threesome meant two women pleasuring HIM! It probably never crossed his mind that he and his unit were not the automatic center of attention. "After all it always is in porn"

These are the same guys who think Lesbians are women who make it with each-other and them as well.

Or Perhaps......

Perhaps they simply didn't want the Westoboro baptist church to show up and make it a hate festival like they promised. When they show up the event is always all about THEM no matter what it is.

They spared the mourners that. It WOULD be nice to have a recording of the service available for those of us who DID mourn his passing though.

Can you blame them for privacy? Think of how many people show up in lines for the Phone. If they had made this public it would have REALLY been a circus.

Win 8 haters are just scared of change, say MS bosses

Dana W

And now for something completely different!

I work hard every day to try to get people to switch to Mac or Linux, and the biggest roadblock I have is people who will not change because they "Know how Windows works" of course they really don't, but that after years of habit they know where to find the right buttons at least, and they see that as the same thing.

The biggest advantage Microsoft has in keeping users in the home market is familiarity. People will put up with just about anything so they don't have to learn something new. Now they will have to learn something new whether they like it or not. With Windows other eccentricities, this is going to do more to get people to seriously consider alternatives than any amount of proselytizing ever could.

Windows 8 is a great thing. A Great thing for Mac AND LInux.

Stallman: Jobs exerted 'malign influence' on computing

Dana W
Flame

Who cares?

Another fat old geek crying over his Unix terminal because computers don't make him "special" anymore. Another person who thinks fascism means doing something HE hates.

Too damn bad. maybe if his glorious "free software" movement made computers and devices non technical people actually wanted to USE it might be different.

Steve Jobs gave computers to people who are NOT like us. He gave computing to everyone in ways the Microsoft only dreamed about.

In the 1920's Stallman would have complained about manufactured radios because people didn't build their own anymore. I've said it before and I'll say it again, home computing is not about US! "If you are here reading this you know who I mean by us" Not anymore anyway, and it never will be again. Its about the home user, the person who cannot toss a box together, the person who cannot install an OS, and often does not even know what an OS is. The person who wants to use the computer the way they use the TV. They are not remotely interested in HOW it works, simply that it does. And if having to learn how it works is required to use it they will shop elsewhere. they don't care if its "open" they don't know what open means.

And people like Stallman are NOT going to be the ones to give them what they want. People who are computer competent don't see end user requirements. He will never understand why Apple sells, and sells, and sells. Because they don't understand the relationship the general public has with their computers. Computing is a big enough part of their lives that they can't imagine that to 90% of the world its not a machine, its the mystery box that puts them online.

How many of you can put a transmission in your car? How many of you know how your fuel injectors work? You buy cars with less repairablity and upgradeabilty than any Mac, and if someone asked most of you if you knew how to work on your car you would turn your nose up and say "I take it in, I haven't time for that". I do my own car repair, and I see drivers who don't know how their car works the same way many of you see Mac users.

But not one in 100 of you would consider buying a car you had to service or repair yourself, a car that needed virtually daily service, but you can't see why people feel the same way about their computers.

These people, the non geek people are the market, and the more of them there are the more marginalized we are going to be. We are not where the money is anymore, and the people in charge don't care at all about what you want. They care about the sustainable market. In 1985 that was us, now it's your neighbor, the one who wants you to fix his PC six times a month. They are the future and they have no interest in the freedom to do anything they want, on a computer they do not know how to use or understand.

And that is the Secret of "Bad Ol Steve" and the Multi-Billion dollar Apple machine. No real malevolence, no evil planning, just making a simple thing simpler so the normal people can use it. That's all.

Bikers.

In the US they actually have serious moped gangs. http://www.mopedarmy.com/branches/ that are more reminiscent of actual old school bikers than the "fake bikers" these days, as the only people who can AFFORD to get up on a Harley anymore are lawyers and dentists and such, nothing funnier than a dentist in $3000 worth of official licensed Harley gear on a $20,000 bike with $5000 worth of bolt on accessories trying to play 1 percenter.

Then again, ours tend to be 20 somethings with a lot of tattoos mostly into hotrodding and customizing their rides, they tend to drink and party. Generally emplyed, and not generally teenage thugs though. IN the US its very easy and cheap to own a car, and our equivalent of chavs will ALWAYS go for a car first. Mopeds are for college students and weirdos. "I want to point out I run a 1979 Motobecane 50v so I count as a weirdo"

And every time it breaks its YOUR fault from that day on. He said he helps his friends and family. So do I. I help them Choose a Mac, or I help them install Linux. Helping them to keep limping along on Windows when all it does is fail for them is NOT helping them, its enabling them.

The Week of Fail. First Kindle, now this.

I'm primarily a Mac user these days, but I always keep an Ubuntu box going to keep me up to date for the people I help switch to Linux. But it looks like that's done. When people asked for my computer help I'd tell them I'll help. I'll help you buy a Mac or I'll help you switch to Linux.

The godawful Unity interface is not acceptable. Why are we being forced to use this horrid, anti-intuitive, and to use an abused phrase "Fisher Price" interface like Unity? If I wanted this kind of lack of choice forced on me I'd still be running Windows! "Ribbons anyone?"

I've always been a big booster for Ubuntu and I've used it to convert a lot of people "who won't buy a Mac" away from Windows, but its the end of that. Can someone please suggest a good Linux I can give to stupid people who are stubborn and used to Windows?

Amazon's cloudy vid-tablet breaks cover: Not an iClone

Dana W
Thumb Down

Do not want!

I have almost 400 books on my Kindle , of which five came from Amazon. "Thank you Calibre" I did a Jailbreak on my Kindle right away as well.

The Kindle 3 is perfect for me, its purse sized, unlike the tablets, and its viewable when I'm out and about. My Kindle goes with me everywhere. And I only have to plug it in 2-3 times a month.

I also love the FREE 3G, "Yes my phone does that too I know" I often read The Register on my Kindle. This new Pseudo Kindle will not have that.

The new "Kindle" is a big pile of DO NOT WANT! I do not want to read for pleasure on an LCD! I like the E-ink screen. I'm told repeatedly that its not better, but I'm told it by younger people who are NOT wearing bifocals. The large clear fonts and neutral background are untouchable on a tablet.

I like how the Kindle takes me away from the urge to read blogs, do my e-mail, play games, or otherwise just vegetate online.. I can focus seriously on my reading again. Something that for a lot of us slowly faded away over the last 15 or so years. I own three Macs and I'm constantly told I should buy an iPad. I didn't buy one for the same reason I'll not be buying this new "Kindle" tablet.

I want an e-reader, not a tablet, and I'm not the only one. If Amazon will not listen, someone else will. Thought I doubt I'll get the free 3G anywhere else

iPhone users richer, brainier, more tasteful than Android-ers

Dana W
Flame

Meh.

Bla, bla, bla, fashion, bla, bla bla, iSheep, Bla Bla, money, bla, bla, bla..............

I am the LEAST trendy, least fashion conscious person I know. I get my admittedly pricy Apple kit because after a life of fiddling with computers I don't want to anymore. It does what I need without me ever having any issues. Three Macs, six years, one dodgy power switch in a laptop once. Was fixed overnight, not shipped in a box to somewhere to wait for weeks. "I'm talking to YOU Dell"

Same with my phone. Had a GPS fail once. Went to the Apple store, they looked at it, handed me another one and sent me on my way. It took ten minutes This is what people want, they want something that like their TV works when they turn it on, and they don't have to think about. that's all they want to know. THIS is why Apple is minting money. They make it a good experience. Nobody I converted ever regretted it.

Yes I could run an Android phone and jack new OS updates even when the maker refuses to provide. But why do I want the hassle? The vast majority of phone owners cannot. Most don't know what an OS IS! And they don't WANT to know. "Half the Android owners I meet think its the same thing as iOS only cheaper." And these people don't give a wet slap about what open source is at all. They want to know if it plays movies, Angry Birds and Facebook. That's your average user.

Apple works for what I need it for, and I could care less what other people are using, or what anybody else thinks. I'm tired of fiddling around to keep computers stable. I use my fiddling time these days to play with my old Beetle or my little French moped. I decided about 2005 one dark night that having to pull a virus out with a registry editor instead of sleeping was simply not worth my time. If wanting my computer and phone to simply work with no hassles and eat none of my time makes me a sheep, well Baa Baa Baa.

Get the hint folks. The tech companies don't care about the the geeks anymore, just the sheep they market to. And there are just as many sheep with Winboxes as with Macs. And just as many sheep with Android as with iOS. The iSheep buy the pretty, and the Winsheep buy Windows "because everyone uses it".

Sheep are sheep. Most of us buy what works for us, stupid people buy shiny for shiny's sake, no matter the brand.

No metaphorical green eyes here.

@Apple users green eyed?

Not a chance. I DO have one and the only thing I'm jealous of is the i7 processor.

Come on, look at this thing. A plastic case, absurd overheating, incredible weight, and a one trick pony gag like 3D glasses? Maybe if all I did was game this might be attractive.

But after a year and a half I'm still pulling near six hours of battery life, my machine is cool to the touch in all but the heaviest games, and weighing in at 2.04 kg makes my portable actually PORTABLE.

I side with another poster on this thread, If I wanted PC hardware I'd be more likely to buy a sensible Lenovo.

Not really, no.

I used to buy higher end earbuds, but after you have caught your third pair of $100 earbuds on something and seen them ripped in half, subsidizing the insane prices of high end gets old.

I've got three Macs, two iPods and and an iPhone. I have NO white earbuds! And I don't want to "share" my music with the passersby.

I used to save the white Apple earbuds for an emergency, but one day my Sonys were lost and I was forced to USE them. I don't want that to accidentally happen again. Better no earbuds at all.

And I see lots of non Apple devices being used publicly, why are there no diatribes about the "trendiness" of that?"
