Ah yes, El Reg, where mentioning Apple never fails to produce a fine whine, made from the best of sour grapes.

Google to extend rogue Chrome add-on ban to OS X

Dana W

Re: Cost-Benefit Analysis

Hardly, I run Firefox on my Macs, and I run any ad-on's I like. Bets the first thing that ad king Google blocks is all add blockers?

Glad I never fell for this mania for Chrome.

Keurig to drop coffee DRM after boss admits 'we were wrong'

Dana W

Re: The correct way to brew coffee!

@ZenCoder I agree completely, thankfully the local coffee chain does that for me. They roast their coffee in house and grind it every day. Once I had their cold press, there was no going back. http://dunnbros.com/2010/05/17/introducing-infinite-black-cold-press-coffee/

Re: I suppose.

I was told the cycle rate would throw off the clock. No matter, I live in disabled housing, no 220v here, sad to say. Pity, I'd love one like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z691h50yfQ

I suppose.

I understand the convenience of the pod coffee, the better doctors have it in their waiting rooms. But I get a growler of top quality cold press every week, so I'm not the market for one of these cofeematics. Now if i could just figure out how to get a Goblin Teasmade working on American wall current.........

America was founded on a dislike of taxes, so how did it get the IRS?

Dana W

Again, said Tea Party cretins don't understand that without the constitution allowing for taxation for a real Navy, (as opposed to a navy consisting of largely commissioned commercial vessels) and a standing Army, the war of 1812 would have gone far differently, and not at all happily for us.

They are furiously angry that 3% of our budget is going to social aid. (Not including Social security which is paid by its beneficiaries) Yet they are blithely unconcerned with the fact that over 50% of the US budget goes to the Military and its support, a number not matched even by Russia or China.

They don't REALLY hate taxation as they don't seem to mind a bloated military industrial complex.

They hate gays, poor people, anybody darker than light tan, the disabled, and the elderly. And most of all anyone who is NOT an evangelical Christian.

But the tide is turning on them, people are finally starting to see them for what they really are. its why they are going so rabid just now. The latest polls show the "Tea Party" is finally more disliked in the US than atheists. And I have to admit, this makes me smile.

1

Dana W

Not NO taxes as Tea Party cretins like to teach. it was Taxation without representation. But to know that they might actually have to read something.

That can't be. The leading lights of this forum assured us it will NEVER sell. And that nobody will wear a watch anymore.

I'm still indifferent, and we own six Macs. First is a Fools game. If I ever get one, I'll wait six months and get one cheap off Craigslist or a pawnshop. I still don't see the draw, but apparently I'm in the minority.

US Senate to probe the Obama-Google love-in

Dana W

They are getting so desperate, they are looking at an election in a couple of years, and most of their top criticisms are based on Fox News fantasies. they NEED a scandal desperately. Their polls are not great, they are NOT carrying the new youth vote at all, and they won't have the benefit they had last time of a large number of seats in VERY gerrymandered districts.

They will dig and dig and dig. A scandal will be made of something because after six years of dragging the US economy to a stop and crying about Obama, finger pointing and scandal mongering is all they can do.

So far their campaign for 2016 is a platform of "stop the gays" and no matter how you feel about that subject, its not a presidential platform for people who want to win.

Force your hand: Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display

No, really, the $17,000 Apple Watch IS all about getting your leg over

Dana W

Most Apple watches will cost about as much as a decent iPod. All this is is clickbait. Personally, right now I'm wearing a very nice 1974 Seiko. Next year I'll still be wearing a real watch, How hard is it to fish your phone out of your pocket/purse?

0

Dana W

Enough with the $17,000 watch. How many of those are there again? Less than ten? The way the tech press spins this, you would think that is what an Apple watch actually costs.

Apple: Those security holes we fixed last week? You're going to need to repatch

Dana W

Re: what about other patches?

I use both and they really are NOT looking similar. Are you sure you are not thinking of Apple's abandoned child, Launchpad? I don't know anybody who uses that silly thing. And cheapass watch? One thing you can be certain of is it will have superb build quality, and no I'm not getting one. Have you seen some of the terrible cheap Android watches? Or are they only cheap when Its Apple?

Re: what about other patches?

IOS for Mac is NOT coming. It just isn't. That has been the scream of trolls since the first iPhone. Mac sales would drop to nothing. It would be idiotic.

How many Watches will Apple flog? 20, er, 18.5, no, five, wait, 50 million!

Dana W
Meh

Not for this Apple fan.

I"m an Apple fan, lots of Apple gear, but I own about two dozen, mechanical, and electro-mechanical (non Quartz) wrist watches, from thirty to one hundred years of age, I just can't see retiring them to wear a tinier screen for my iPhone on my wrist. Maybe I'm old fashioned, I don't know, but I can get any number of beautiful, classic watches for $350+ that will certainly outlive me, and could easily go on for a century. And one that will be obsolete in 3 years just does not cut it in comparison.

Apple CEO: Fandroids are BINNING Android in favour of IPHONES

Dana W

Re: IOS to Android ratio

It measures iOS to Android ownership on the REGISTER nothing else. And the user base here is very much NOT the general public.

iOS is popular with people who want it to just work, and don't want to have to run an antivirus on their PHONE!

I've seen people go to Android from iOS, They get talked into it by salesmen, then they come back. iOS has better user retention. Android is fine for geeks. ts like Linux, its nice if you know how to use it, and you can maintain it. But people like their phones the way they like their TVs, turn it on and USE it. My Last Android device had to have its boot-loader unlocked and be rootkitted to give me that non "walled garden" experience It is supposed to be so famous far.

BITE that APPLE if you want to escape the Android garden, Microsoft

Dana W

More iOS users are willing to actually PAY for apps. In so many app reviews on the Google play store, the PAID version gets slammed for having more features than the free one, because Ghod forbid they have to sped a dollar on an app. Developers are apparently supposed to be paid in "satisfaction"

You'll get sick of that iPad. And guess who'll be waiting? Big daddy Linux...

Dana W

I am a Mac user and multiple Mac owner. I was loving Linux, and planned on replacing my Macbook Pro with a Lenovo when Gnome 3 came along and pretty much Killed Linux for me. Canonical's newfound love of lock down left me cold. Linux wants to give me the amazing workspace customization I had in the early 2000's I'll change my mind. I'll head right back to Linux when Unity is buried in the same pit with Metro.

Feds finger Norks in Sony hack, Obama asks: HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE KOREA?

Dana W

Re: Over thinking the situation

I've seen the movie, its horrible and silly. If NK hadn't gotten its panties in a bunch, it would have blown over in a few weeks.

NK sees everything released in the US as being released by the US government. .Because in NK, EVERYTHING is released by the government. They don't understand this silly film has nothing to do with The US government or its foreign policy. Its weak sophomoric humor for stoners. No more, no less.

Reg man confesses: I took my wife out to choose a laptop for Xmas. NOOOO

Dana W

Re: Snobbery bollocks

Seriously? Benchmark one of these $50 tablets up against a top end Samsung or Apple tablet. If you want a bad screen, a plastic case and a cheap and dated "or mystery" processor, by all means buy one from Tesco/Walmart (insert your local junk store here) Be ready for no support, an antique version of Android, and quite often not even access to the Google play store. MY Android Tablet plays Portal. I'm betting yours does not. You get what you pay for.

What is it about the misers here who will ignore CPU and build quality just to pat themselves on the back for avoiding a brand name?
