Not stopping now, even if Apple is.
I have three iPods. A 160 thick, and a 160 thin, the one I use the most though is a 2004 black and red U2 model. I replaced the battery, and dumped the 20 Gig hard drive for a 64 Gig compact flash. I want to load the seventh Gen with 256 of flash as well. I like classic iPods, and as long as I can get the battery, I will NEVER stop using them.
I saw that. I sold my iPad and bought an Android tablet. It runs emulators just fine. I'm tired of being force fed junk app versions of classic games, usually with LOTS of in App purchases.
But When Samsung was copying wholesale it was merely coincidence.
It comes in a Droid version as well, read the article, don't just look at the pictures.
I will never understand these fools, and my house is full of Apple stuff. I like the iPhone, I really do, but I'll get my next iPhone by registered mail, next year when my contract for this one runs out. Just like the last one.
Android or Apple, its a PHONE. Some people are just stupid. If you have time to wait in front of a store for days or weeks, you have worse issues than the need for a new phone.
What are you talking about? Of course iTunes lets you store your music library on your computer!
No cloud please.
People go on about the glories of the cloud. Cloud music is great if you are in your teens and only want the flavor of the day, but if you have even reasonably eclectic tastes, a lot of what you listen to is just NOT there. It is not about convenience for us, it is about making sure every track out there is licensed, and accounted for. And if you would rather listen to Klaus Nomi than Niki Minaj, well as far as they are concerned you are simply out of luck.
I own three iPods, two 160's, and the one I use the most, a Gen 4 U2 iPod I converted to flash. Its very easy to open a dead or dying iPod, upgrade the battery, and convert to flash. My 20 gig is now a 64 gig, (soon to be 128 gig) and when I do the 160 Classics I plan on making them into 256 gigs. There is a lot to be said for a player than can hold all my important music, and 11 years of my favorite show.
My biggest fear is one day plugging them into iTunes and being told they are no longer supported.
It does not matter what it looks like. No matter WHAT it looks like the screaming Android trolltards here will piss and whine about it.
They were ready to hang it before the first screenshot. So why bother arguing with them?
Arguing with trolls is wasted effort. And it only took me 20 years of the internet, and ten of BBSes (and an extra four or WoW somewhere in between) before that to figure it out. I guess I'm a slow learner.
bad eating. Its simple.
A Cheeseburger is 99¢ and a salad is $6.99 to $10 and they wonder why we are all fat.
@Mendling Coming after Steve Ballmer with a chainsaw. Does it really NEED a reason?
Its lost on me. If I didn't have an iPad Mini I'd get another Nexus 7 for just a little bit more. Really, if they were going to make an iPad mini competitor why make it LESS good then the already nice Nexus 7?
I've said it and said it. Android is about having the biggest phone so you can show it to your friends.
Well, there it is.
Seriously, that is asinine. Who would not feel like a complete prat holing that to the side of their head?
But at least its not a walled garden!
Re: iPhone economics
We miss out on massive malware. I think we can survive it.
Re: More Apple is all about fashion nonsense.
You didn't even read what I wrote before you replied. That must be fine coolaid your end? Microsoft or "This year is the year of the desktop for sure" LInux?
Five Macs, paid for one. Three were gifts one is my fiancee's work machine, Mine I paid cash.
Dollar per dollar it was quite reasonable.
"It struck me just how common the iPhone has become."
Who cares? Its a phone not a fashion statement. I guess Im not trendy and cool enough for Android. I'll just have a reliable safe iPhone and leave Android to the trendsetters.
More Apple is all about fashion nonsense.
The word for Android isn't egalitarian, its ghetto. KIDDING!
The REALLY fashionable types just want to compare who has the BIGGEST phone. Android has that market hands down. If you want a phone the size of a paperback book, you go Android. I get the android fashionistas all the time telling me Android is in! Its whats cool! Everybody who is anybody has Android! And who has the trendiest model. These days Android is all about fashion and another way for boys to show who has the "biggest".
But seriously, I never cared about Fashion, I never watch advertizing, not in many years. I go out of my way to AVOID being fashionable. When I bought my first iPhone, there really was nothing else like it, I keep getting them because my partner and I have five Macs and I like the integration. It's worked well for me, never failed me, and the customer service has been top notch.
If Android meets my needs "Removable battery, expansion slot, and decent warranty support" at some point in a phone NOT made by Samsung, maybe I'll even switch to one. But I really don't want my phone to be a huge pocket tablet. These days ANDROID is for the trendy people to impress each other with.
Re: All fugly except the mac
I've never seen anything stay at an apple store more than 72 hours. Usually just overnight.
Their service is fast and efficient.
Re: Waste of Space
EVERY corporation in the US gives to presidential campaigns. And for a major Corporate donation, $300.000 is pocket change. Sounds like they underspent. Repub corps give MILLIONS.
That's not even 1/6th a cheap corporate jet.
Re: jumping ship
@ribosome Its called Parallels.
Re: The writing was on the wall
Say what you will about Firefox, but its security and privacy plug ins and its many, many ad blocking options are second to none.
No other company has any incentive to keep my connection from looking like cable TV.
I liked it, but I jumped ship on it when the development just didn't keep up. Like Shiira, I wanted to believe, but I want max security and max ad-blocking. And there is only one place I can get that.
SURE it is.
Yes because Apple products are havens for Mal-ware and viruses.
Wait, that's Windows. Oops.
Seven years of Mac, and I run a virus scan once a year, if I need it or not.
Still nothing. How is that Android Mal-ware doing? Still epidemic?
Want to see butthurt Fanbois? Watch the thumbs down this gets.
Thanks to the powers that be ruining the economy, I'm far too poor to to fly anywhere again. Problems solved.
Re: Here's an idea..
We got the scientists, Russia got the machine tools and production equipment. And we were hampered by a Military who imported, then basically ignored Von Braun till the exploding missiles got too embarrassing propaganda wise.
They went with us because they didn't want to wind up doing their design work in a gulag. We paid better, and your house didn't get bars on the windows.
The Jesus Brigade is at it again. J.C. Penny company's support of and marketing to gay couples infuriates them and they can't get anywhere in getting their rapidly diminishing numbers to generate a real boycott, and they are desperate to find anything. I suspect they figured that Hitler Tea would offend Liberals.
They probably heard all about it from the Jesus in their Cheese sandwich.
Re: This seems rather half-arsed
The train wreck is even more fun if you aren't on Windows at all.
When does it not?
Half a second? That makes all the difference! Sell me an Android right now! Not.
And if you can't keep your phone out of your beer you are intellectually on par with a potato.
Slow news day on El Reg? This is sad even for the first Fanboy Church of Android.
Seriously, Internet cafes still exist? I thought they went out with Windows XP, cheap laptops, and free wi-fi.
Can you blame them? Its every bit as stupid and useless as Launchpad. The only difference is Launchpad can be easily ignored.
Seriously, I'm glad you guys are getting your desktop back. I can't imagine having to use the interface formerly known as Metro. It would be like starting my Mac and having Launchpad as my default. I'm happy they finally LISTENED for once.
Re: gets my goat
Read the actual writing if its framers. They DO make to very clear they meant individuals.
Re: Sensible gun laws in the US?
Depends on the state, The president lauded Minnesota's gun laws. Sober responsible honest people can have (and carry) guns here, drunks, fools and criminals need not apply. And yes your background is checked VERY thoroughly and you WILL be trained in safety and the law.
Drunk drive? No gun for you. Ever involuntarily committed, no gun for you. Get charged for beating your wife or kids, no gun for you. Gun ownership is an ADULT responsibility. If you cannot behave as an adult, you don't get adult privileges.
If it was like that in the red state pest holes everyone could be happy.
And background checks? I had to go through two of them. State and FBI. There are PLENTY of background checks.
All this is is the "guns for rich people only" law. this will never pass, and it shouldn't.
Bad tech and worse legislation. Seriously, I'm supposed to hang that mess on my target pistol?
Don't get me wrong, I have three Macs. I love Apple. But no way, no way, not even if it was Steve Jobs back from the dead!
Please tell me this was for a Charity............
Re: Ballmer desperate to copy Google
Show Balmer something new to copy then, I'm sure he will be glad to copy something new.
If they are over, how come I can't get a cup of coffee without bumping into two or three of the dickheads?
The best tribute to hipsters ever.
Removable battery. Expansion slot. Everything I want to buy in an Android phone. If it wasn't Samsung, I'd be sold,
Seven years 100% Microsoft free, and I couldn't be happier. And I'm far from the only one.
Microsoft is losing and they know it.
I have a small pile of iDevices. Never seen or heard of such a thing.
IF I ever trade my iPhone in, and thats a long shot IF. it would be for a customized Android, not for THIS! I'd even use WINDOWS phone first. Yes I hate this that much based on one screenshot.
Think what this has to be like with a 40-50 apps......
When a 3D printer can make a reliable rifled barrel, get back to me. This is nothing new, just a zip gun, and a very poor one.
If Microsoft spent half as much time improving their product as they spent on media spin campaigns and slamming their competitors product this sort of thing wouldn't be necessary at all.
Re: Instead of
@Anonymous Coward If I wanted to do less I'd buy a Chromebook.
Now if they can just fix it so it stops being Windows!
"Plastic Gun" is the panic cry of the American super liberal. I'm sure they are enjoying a good run of hysteria.
On the other hand, you couldn't PAY me to fire that thing. There is enough plastic in my Glock, that thing looks like an accident waiting to happen.
@Curtis Reality won't effect these people, they are ignorant bigots who's minds are made up. They know our laws better than we do, really, just ask them, they will tell you all about it. And they know all about the USA, its just like on TV! really!
And they had a cousin who went last year! And he saw real guns! In the Toy store! automatic weapons! They have them in candy machines! And they carry them to school! You can get bazookas at the 7/11! and no background checks! They read it somewhere!
They are terribly fascinated with what they cannot have and will not rest will we are free to be killed by chavs for our cellphones just like in "civilized" counties.
Re: just 0.88 crashes a week
They are NOT restricting what you run on your Mac at all. Not one little bit. That is a myth.
Change your security setting and run anything you like. Mine is set to right click the first time and run for untrusted software. I like that feature, I can run what I need to run, and foolish people stay safe.
And besides, us coffee house use our iPads. I don't want anyone spilling a Latte in MY Macbook Pro..
