You are wrong.
To achieve the best performance hand written assembly language is always used.
The fact is that writing assembly is time consuming and only a few programmers can really do it.
There are less than 300,000 programmers in the world, any higher numbers is people doing basic programming. Out of those only a tiny 5% or less is able to do proper optimization in assembly on one or more platforms.
Nonsense.
The Sony PS3 Cell CPU when it was released was beyond anything Intel had to offer at an higher price.
That was innovating. That was worth paying a premium price for.
The PS3 is still far from outdated.
The first pictures and demos of beta PS4 games just show how bad the hardware really is. It's already outdated. It offers nothing better than what an old PS3 can do. And it's worse than any medium-range PC.
That is the whole point.
A cheap $100 AMD APU hardware only to rip customers off is just a shame Sony and Microsoft managers deserve paying by going bankrupt!
Unless too many people will like being sheep wasting money on cheap AMD APU PCs.
A fraud this console really is.
Cheap, slow AMD hardware. A custom AMD APU it's still going to be a slow product. The A10-5800K was released a few months ago and her it is:

At least 2 times faster on synthetic benchmarks.
And LGA2011 Core i7 with 6-core and Quad-Channel 52GByte/s bandwidth DDR3 are even faster.
You are the silly one here that clearly doesn't have a clue what he is talking about.
You clearly don't know know how RAID controllers work either.
And no, if a controller fails you don't lose all your data, changing the controller with a new one getting back all the data is not only possible but it quite rarely happens in data centers.
And a 512GB SSD would be enough for what exactly ?
Booting the OS maybe and just that.
Nowadays a PC can't have less than 2TB.
It's quite common having 6 or more 3.5" 2TB hard drives in a mid-tower or full-tower case.
Try buying 12TB of SSD ... if you can afford that.
You have no clue what you are talking about.
A single SSD is not reliable, way worse than a single hard disk.
Reliability and fast performance must be both achieved for anyone that cares about protecting data either being a business or an average user.
RAID configurations are needed to achieve that.
Expensive ? Indeed.
Needed ? Indeed.
Whoever can afford buying such configurations absolutely should for getting maximum reliability and maximum performance.
http://www.adaptec.com/en-us/products/series/7q/
Adaptec Series 7Q with maxCache 3.0
71605Q: 16 internal ports
- caching writes to a redundant SSD cache pool (either RAID1E or RAID5)
- Supports up to 8 SSDs with up to 2TB of SSD
So a 12 SATA Enterprise class 1TB or 2TB hard disk drives in RAID-5 with 4 256MB SSD MLC as cache would give top-notch sustainted performance and good reliability with that controller. It means well above 1GByte/s both read and write with a such a config.
http://www.lsi.com/products/storagecomponents/Pages/MegaRAIDSAS9286CV-8eCC.aspx
Eight internal SATA+SAS ports
SSD-Optimized Software included; CacheCade Pro 2.0 and Fast Path Ready
MegaRAID® CacheVault flash cache protection (included)
A $300-$400 SAS expander needs to be added for getting more than the 8 included ports. The LSI is more expensive anyway than the Adaptec but it's way faster. With a 12 SATA Enterprise class 1TB or 2TB hard disk drives in RAID-5 with 4 256MB SSD MLC as cache config the overall speed could go well beyond 1.5GByte/s
Google Android is a fraud just like Facebook, Youtube. That is new economy bull at work.
Companies using Linux cheat on customers. Giving no real support.
Android is a huge mess. Low quality OS. Low quality hardware. No real standard so any developer to create apps properly would need to buy 30 to 100 devices just to do some beta testing.
15% net income drop with just a 1.2% revenues drop year-on-year ?
Something is clearly wrong with this picture. Otherwise Intel managers should be fired for not being able to ensure a proper net income.
Well, Hollywood studios/tv networks do even worse claiming to be almost bankrupt so obviously these absurd percentage drop numbers look like some little kid playing and nothing serious if compared to Hollywood.
However, it's still a fact that there are just too many lies with all businesses and accounting, both big and small fishes.

SSD won't replace mechancial Hard Disk drives for another 10 to 15 years at least.
Manufacturers already have technologies in lab to increase Hard Disk capacity over 300TB. It's just for a marketing reason that they aren't pushing the technology and are slowly re-using existing tech before releasing anything new.
Since when RAID-5 had an higher failure rate than single drives?
Also no one with a bit of brain would setup a 3-disk RAID-5 anyway. The minimum proper RAID-5 setup is using 4 drives.
Also.. telling that current drives would have 1 error every 10E14 it's just not true.
Enterprise SATA and SAS hard drives have 10E15, 10E16 and 10E17 error rates nowadays.
If you thought that consumer cheapest hard drives with 10E14 was the best on the market today then you were living in the past.
The now ancient slim 5.25" Quantum BigFoot hard disk drives it's the design that manufacturers should pursue now for highest capacity drives.
Yes, it would be limited to full desktop and server cases BUT it would allow 8TB to 16TB or more with current technology and 2 to 4 platters.
Helium filled drives in a 5.25" slim design would allow for very high capacity disks to happen now at current manufacturing costs and not in 3 or 5 years.
Bribes from Samsung and Google and Microsoft are all good and sweet and tender.
Apple must be the bad evil one.
So it doesn't matter that they invented a user interface on iOS for their devices and other manufacturers copied it instead of inventing their own.
Because Apple must give away for free to its competitors, so the corrupted judges tell the world.
Disgusting.
Barack Hussein Obama gave orders to CIA to create the mass murder case.
Just like with the The Dark Knight Rises..the mass murder in a theater a few months ago.
Banning video games is not going to stop a damn thing.
Banning weapons is only going to help criminals. Which is the main goal of Barack Hussein Obama and Democrats party will.
It's not "flawed samples" it's FAKE SAMPLES.
It's fake statistics.
Who wants to drive away the freelance developers force from iOS to other platforms?
1) Microsoft. (desperate with their silly restricted Windows 8 developers program)
2) Google. (desperate with fake statistics to the press because they sell only very cheap phones and developers are quitting the platform due to customers not paying for apps at all)
If these fake statistics were true there wouldn't be around 15,000 freelance developers and tiny startups and small (2-5 people) software houses producing apps and games on iOS.
If everyone was getting only a tiny bit of money and just 25 big mutlinationals were getting all the profits there would be no one left developing for iOS.
If people buying iOS devices weren't buying apps and games there wouldn't be any profits.
Nowadays the average iOS user has no less than 100 apps installed at a time on any Apple device. At least 50 or more they buy.
Then a minority of iOS customers doesn't buy apps and another minority uses pirated copies (that lack updates..at each app update they must find a new cracked version and reinstall it.. how smart they are.. just like on Android..pathetic people stealing ultra-cheap apps).
85-90% of iOS users generate profits on the platform by buying apps and games. And surely not just 50 to 75 apps a year released by 25 big software houses on the platform.
@magnetik
"Er, no. People will do anything for money based on perception. That's why pyramid schemes (and MLM) work so well; people think they'll get huge rewards for their investment. The reality, however, is usually something quite different ..."
You have no clue what you are talking about. The Apple Store is not a scam pyramid scheme. It's a true business. Developers are on iOS because customers pay for apps.
These fake statistics are clearly wanted by Google and/or Microsoft trying to attack Apple as usual.
Their scare tactic is just plain lame. Their platforms are scam ones indeed, on Android customers just don't want to buy even $0.50 apps. There is no profit there.
If any of this was ever true there wouldn't be so many freelance developers, startups and small software houses developing and releasing apps and games on iOS in the first place.
If only a few big software houses were getting all the profits on IOS platform no one would even be trying. Surely not freelance developers that usually start with just a few thousands bucks to buy the bare minimum hardware, software and books as needed to develop any good app.
Despite the censoring on images that NASA/JPL as well other military space agencies perform there has been plenty of pictures in which alien lifeforms, alien spaceships and alien buildings could be seen.
It's kinda silly that the scientists on Earth are so ignorant to follow like a bunch of sheep with no brain at all whatever pathetic lie NASA can come up with.
Aliens able to build planet-size spaceships, do terraforming, create stars and planets surely have the technology to hide themselves.
Cloaking technology is used 24/7 all around us. Otherwise people on Earth would see more than a Moon in orbit every single day.
.. so all these Android tablets.. who the heck is using those? No one of those customers is using the tablets to either browse web sites nor buy apps,uh?
The iPad dominates all actual way more realistic and true online traffic statistics while only a few are using Android tablets. If Android had 50% of the market that couldn't happen of course. But it does indeed.
Then add to that the fact that those buy Android devices want everything for free and don't buy apps...
If developers trusted these fake statistics by either Google or Microsoft claiming that they managed to defeat Apple they all would go bankrupt wasting their precious time and resources (the freelancers and small software houses and startups for sure) on either Android or Win8/WinRT8/WinPhone8.
All these claims are fake.
The iPad Mini by Tim Cook has been a huge mistake because it's outdated hardware at an expensive price.
BUT the iPad4 is the only true tablet on the market that is worth buying.
Trying to make a fool of people and spin up lies so that those numbers would become a reality then.
There aren't 40million actual Windows8 users out there.
Microsoft just hopes that so many or more will enjoy being ripped off by Christmas time buying their lies for their crap unusable Win8 Metro/ModernUI kindergarten type thing.
Metro/ModernUI is not a GUI, it's a silly childish joke. It can be nice in a kindergarten for preschool kids games but nothing more than that.
All the WinPhone and tablets with Metro/ModernUI tiles are just plain dumb. Adults wasting time with silly useless tiles lacking any advanced funcionality.
Also Microsoft claims that Metro/ModernUI is fast.. of course,it's just plain basic 2D vector graphics that even PCs of 20-30years ago would have been pretty fast a rendering. Everything about Metro is a huge lie.
Windows8 is a just a real shame.
WindowsServer2012 is an ever worse shame with Metro/ModernUI.
Add to that that the Microsoft Storage Spaces is a flawed unreliable attempt at copying Sun's software RAID ZFS functions.
WindowsServer2012 is just a big fail along with the whole Metro/ModernUI plague that turned Windows8 in a messed up unusable crappy product too.
The Metro/ModernUI is a childish unusable nonsense on Windows8 already. Having it on WindowsServer2012
it's way worse and just more retarded.
Wasting time with Metro/ModernUI it's just plain stupid.
Microsoft deserves to go bankrupt on this mess.
"Cybercrime" and "piracy" are business managers bulls. The industry loves this, spins this and controls this all over the world.
They could shut down every single torrent site and sharing site in 24/48 hours all over the world if they really want to.
They never do that. With no controlled "piracy" they know hardware sales would drop and they would lose money. It's the industry itself that releases 90% of "pirated" copies on the 'net, as well as hacks, cracks and custom roms for smartphones and consoles.
They want people to believe that little computer wiz kids are doing all of that, and genius university students and other bulls. Unfortunately they succeeded into putting these false silly myths in the minds of worldwide population. The truth is far different.
The GUI it's an option,uh?
That's nonsense.
Linux or BSD and any Unix servers do have GUIs too. The fact that you can run long script on shells means nothing. And it's not that businesses using Linux, BSD, Unix servers don't use GUIs to do the job.
It might look nice and smart to do everything on the shell but it's not always the best way to do things at all.
And having a pathetic childish unusable Metro/ModernUI thing instead just means that the only UI option sucks and can't be used.
Microsoft window of opportunity ? That would happen only if people decided to throw away their precious hard earned money into bad Microsoft Win8 Metro/ModernUI smartphones, tablets crap products.
And seriously... business uptake of Windows Server 2012 ? What ?
Would any business really want to waste their employees time dealing with the atrocious childish Metro/ModernUI tiles ?
Microsoft wants to turn every business into a kindergarten with the whole Metro/ModernUI childish tiles pathetic thing.
But that doesn't mean that businesses will want to do that.
Having put Metro/ModernUI unusable childish tiles on Windows Server 2012 just shows how much on drugs employess and managers are at Microsoft nowadays.

"Sony sells PS3's Cell to Toshiba
By Thomas Ricker posted October 18th 2007 3:41AM
So much for their earlier denial, eh? An anonymous Sony official has "confirmed" to Japan's Nikkei that they will sell their advanced computer chip operations to Toshiba in an effort to re-focus on core business. The official announcement is expected later today. The sale gives Toshiba the manufacturing responsibility for the much hyped Cell processor used in Sony's PS3. Sony, of course, will continue to invest in the Cell chip. Nikkei says the deal is worth some ¥100 billion (about $858 million) and should be completed by March."

"Sony buys back Toshiba's Cell plant for 50 billion yen, makes a killing and plans a CMOS fab
By Sean Hollister posted Dec 22nd 2010 2:44PM
Looks like Toshiba's Cell processor ambitions didn't quite pan out -- Japanese news sources are reporting that the company's selling its Nagasaki manufacturing plant back to Sony for 50 billion yen, or roughly $597 million in US money. Considering that Toshiba originally purchased the semiconductor facility for 100 90 billion yen (then $835 million) back in 2008, it seems like Sony's making out like a bandit here -- and it may have just found the perfect place to build more CMOS chips for its high-end camera lineup, too. Sony reportedly told the Nikkei Business Daily that it may repurpose the facility to produce HD image sensors for cameras and smartphones. What will happen to the chip that launched 40 million PS3s and a graphics co-processor or two? With any luck, we'll find out at CES 2011 quite soon. "
So they sold the Cell technology to Toshiba. They are not using Cell anymore for Playstation4.
And now they are claiming that they want to quit the tv market to turn into a semiconductor manufacturer instead?
That makes perfect sense, really? Indeed..you sell a huge asset like Cell and then you throw away your tv divisions in a hope to turn the group into a semiconductor manufacturer.
What great managers they are...
Sony is doomed to go bankrupt with these managers.

We have a 100GB ReFS volume. The volume was filled to capacity and now the volume is unaccesible. If you click on the drive letter in Windows Explorer it displays the following "W:\ is not accessible. The volume repair was not successful." There are several events in the system event log for event ID 133. "The file system detected a checksum error and was not able to correct it. The name of the file or folder is "<unable to determine file name>"." I have tried added additional space to the drive via Disk Management as well but it failed with the following error. "The volume cannot be extended because the volume does not contain a recognized file system."
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix an ReFS volume?
So far I am not too impressed with this "resilient" file system...
"
They seriously expect developers, engineers, designers, network administrators and anyone else doing business with their computers to ever waste time with the messed up childish unusable nonsense that Metro/ModernUI is all about?
Surely Ballmer will try all possible dirty tricks to twist numbers and claim that Windows8 is a success and everyone wants Metro and everyone is buying Metro and loving it. Just lies.
Windows8 is way worse than Vista.
Vista had bugs BUT it was still usable. And once the bugs got fixed it worked pretty well already with SP1.
Windows8 it's a fraud and a nightmare to any user.
It's a mess even for anyone playing games on their PCs.
The whole Metro fraud has to go. Eveyrone involved with Metro must be fired. Starting with Ballmer.
More competition what?
Failed statistics spread by Google, Samsung and Microsoft to tell the world that they would be dominating the smartphone and tablet market? Seriously?
Apple owns the market with over 70% of the profits.
Also the Android Marketplace it's a mess and a joke. People who buy Android smartphones don't buy any apps. They want everything for free and they pirate even $0.50 apps. Go figure.
Microsoft WindowsPhone8,Surface,WinRT and so on doesn't even exist at all. Developers won't even think about wasting time and resources on such a platform. They already keep losing money on Android.
iOS and Apple are the only real market.
Competitors what?
Tim Cook is a marketing guy on crack. Clearly. The whole iPad Mini thing putting the true new iPad 4 in the shadows wasn't enough. Now he wants to ensure Apple losing money for realy with two iPhone released each year?
You have no clue what you are talking about, really.
.NET is a virtual machine just like Java.
"nothing more but a framework" you wrote there means absolutely nothing that way.
The C# language for accessing .NET components and programming doesn't mean that it isn't a virtual machine because .NET is a virtual machine, plain and simple.
That is the reason why .NET apps are so slow and bad compared to C++ ones.
And that is a good reason why since Microsoft forced video cards/GPU manufacturers to write drivers using .NET the distribution packages became a bloated mess and the number of bugs increased like never before.
C# and .NET just like Java are suited for not real programmers. Real programmers use C/C++ and in-line assembly at least.
